Audi has launched the second-generation Audi RS 7 Sportback in India. The Audi RS 7 Sportback comes as a wide-bodied five-seater with a 4.0-litre V8 under the hood and a mild hybrid system. Audi India has priced the sleek performance sedan at Rs 1.94 crore (ex-showroom). They’ve also confirmed that deliveries will commence in August 2020.
That 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8i TFSI petrol motor produces 591bhp and 800Nm of torque. This motor comes mated to an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission with quattro permanent all-wheel drive system with a launch control function. 0-100kmph takes just 3.6 seconds (claimed) and top speed is limited to 250kmph. However, this can be increased to 280kmph with the optional dynamic package and to 305kmph with the RS dynamic plus package.
The 2020 RS 7 Sportback also gets a Mild Hybrid System (MHEV) which comes with a 48-volt main onboard electrical system. The belt alternator starter can recover up to 12 kW power under gentle acceleration and feed it into a lithium-ion battery as electricity. Interestingly, Audi’s drive select dynamic handling system also allows adjustments to the sound of the engine! The Germans have also fitted Cylinder on Demand (COD) technology which helps improve efficiency. In higher gears at low to medium loads and engine speeds, four cylinders automatically deactivate to minimize fuel consumption.
Commenting on the launch, Balbir Singh Dhillon, Head of Audi India, said, “We are thrilled to launch the new Audi RS 7 Sportback in India – a car that is striking, powerful and is a technological masterpiece. The V8 twin-turbo 4.0L TFSI petrol heart propels the car to 100kph in a super quick 3.6 seconds. Our legendary Quattro all-wheel-drive system means you can make the most of the 591bhp. I personally love the way the RS 7 sounds and I can’t wait for owners and enthusiasts to experience and hear its V8 growl.”
Furthermore, the RS 7 Sportback gets five-link front and rear axles with standard RS adaptive air suspension. The air suspension has three modes and can be set on automatic level control. Braking is handled by internally ventilated and perforated 16.5-inch discs at the front and 14.5-inch at the rear. Another cool addition is the spoiler, which automatically extends from the tail-gate when upwards of 100kmph.
As far as the design is concerned, the RS 7 Sportback features that unique sloping roofline, flared wheel arches and low stance to give it an aggressive stance. There’s also the RS-specific oval exhaust pipes and the rear bumper comes with a diffuser. On the inside, there’s the special RS displays that use the Audi virtual cockpit to provide details of tyre pressure, torque, performance, oil temperature, boost pressure, lap times, acceleration, and G-forces. There’s also the sporty-looking Flat-bottomed, fully perforated RS Sport leather steering wheel sports new large RS aluminium shift paddles.
As standard, the RS 7 Sportback comes with 21-inch 10-spoke star design alloy wheels. There are 13 standard exterior paint finishes, including the two RS-specific shades of Nardo Grey and Sebring Black. Musical duties are handled by B&O Sound System which features a 3D front surround system and 16 speakers with a 705 W output.
Balbir Singh Dhillon further added, “With the Audi RS 7 Sportback our customers can experience the most dynamic side of Audi. As a brand, we are focused on bringing exciting products for our customers and I am happy to share that the all-new Audi RS 7 Sportback isn’t the only RS model scheduled for 2020.”
