After recently announcing the commencement of bookings for the Hector Plus, MG Motor India has finally launched it today. Prices start from Rs 13.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and go up to Rs 18.54 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Just so you know, this new MG is essentially a Hector in six-seater form. But there are a few updates and changes to the Hector Plus –
First off, the Hector Plus is 65mm longer than the Hector, but all other dimensions, including wheelbase, remain the same. On the outside, the Hector Plus has slightly reworked tail lamps, front & rear bumpers and LED headlamps & DRLs. There’s also new grille, which looks rather good. There are captain seats in the second-row, which means that this a six-seater, as mentioned before. However, reports suggest that there could a seven-seater version arriving soon.
Furthermore, it comes in four variants – Style, Super, Smart and Sharp. There are three engine options on offer – a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel. There’s also a 48V mild-hybrid version available with the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol. This remains the same as the five-seater Hector. The 1.5-litre turbo petrol produces 143bhp and 250Nm of torque. The 2.0-litre diesel, on the other hand, produces 168bhp and 350Nm of torque. The 2.0-litre diesel motor and 1.5-litre mild-hybrid come mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, whereas the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol only gets a DCT automatic gearbox.
In terms of safety, the Hector Plus comes loaded with six airbags, ABS with EBD & Brake Assist, rear disc brakes, electronic stability program, traction control system, hill hold control, front parking sensors and a 360-degree camera. It also comes packed with features like heated ORVMs, a ‘Smart Swipe’ auto tailgate opening system, powered tailgate, eight-colour interior ambient lighting, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, i-SMART connected tech with 55+ features and floating light turn indicators. There’s even an upgrade that lets you have a ‘conversation’ with your Hector Plus!
There are six colour options to choose from, one of which is brand new – ‘Starry Sky Blue’. The Hector Plus will rival the upcoming Tata Gravitas and Toyota Innova Crysta, and the Mahindra XUV500. Also, MG is providing the Hector Plus with a five-year (unlimited kilometres) warranty as standard. So, what do you make of the Hector Plus? Would you consider it is a chauffeur-driven option for the family?
