Skoda Auto India has unveiled the Rapid 1.0-litre TSI with an automatic transmission at an introductory starting price of Rs 9.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The top-end variant (Monte Carlo) retails at 13.29 lakh (ex-showroom). Skoda’s mid-size sedan will come with a six-speed torque converter unit mated to the sweet new 1.0-litre TSI mill. Just in case you didn’t know, the 999cc, three-cylinder, TSI petrol engine produces 108bhp and 175Nm of torque. In case you’ve ever wondered, the Rapid nameplate was incipiently used in the 1930s for the Type 901 and the 1980s for the rear engine Rapid Coupé. In November 2011, Skoda Auto resurrected the Rapid nameplate for the Indian subcontinent.
Zac Hollis, Brand Director – Skoda Auto India, said, “With the introduction of a six-speed automatic transmission across the refreshed Rapid TSI range, the Czech marque has raised the benchmark within the segment. It is a reliable technology, provides a dynamic drive experience, and deems to be the best seller in its class.”
Skoda also claims that Rapid TSI automatic offers a fuel efficiency figure of 16.24 kmpl, under standard test conditions. Compared to the outgoing 1.6-litre MPI engine, the automatic Rapid TSI delivers a five percent increase in power and a 14 percent rise in torque output. At the same time, the Rapid TSI with the auto box offers a 9 percent increase in fuel efficiency against the previous motor.
