The 2021 MG Hector is now offering buyers with a petrol-CVT gearbox option. Prices for the Hector CVT start from Rs 16.52 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and is offered in the ‘Smart’ and ‘Sharp’ variant. The Hector 5-seater and Hector Plus 6-seater are both available with the CVT gearbox.
What is new??
The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol on the MG Hector was previously available only with a Dual-Clutch automatic transmission but now the 141bhp engine will now be sold the option of an 8-speed CVT gearbox as well. The hybrid-petrol and 2.0-litre diesel engine will still be available only with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Drivers also are offered with two driving modes in the CVT – Sport and Eco.
What doesn’t change?
Overall, the MG had revamped the Hector just 18 months since its launch in January 2021 with some subtle exterior changes such as revised chrome grille at the front and at the rear, the reflector between the taillights are replaced by a black trim piece. The alloys were upsized to 18-inches and the new scuff plates adorn the front and rear bumper. The biggest changes were on the inside of the Hector, instead of the all-black interiors buyers can opt for a new black and beige dual-tone interior. Additional features which were included were an auto-dimming rear view mirror, ventilated front seats and a wireless charger.
The MG Hector petrol-CVT faces competition from the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, both which 5-seater mid-sized SUVs which offer the buyers with a CVT gearbox mated to their petrol engines.
