After creating a lot of hype, for its upcoming SUV. Volkswagen has finally revealed the images and details associated with the 2022 Taos. The Taos is expected to be bigger and also positioned above the existing Volkswagen T-roc. It stands 4,533 mm long, 1,841 mm wide, and 1,635 tall. The Taos also comes with a wheelbase of 2,689 mm.
The 2022 Volkwagen Taos will arrive in eight different color options. It will also come with an aggressively sculpted hood, LED headlights with Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), an illuminated light line, along with 17-inch alloy wheels as standard. But for the enthusiasts, VW will also offer two optional 18-inch wheels and a 19-inch alloy wheel as an option to add with an extra premium. Speaking about additions and extra charges, VW is also offering the panoramic sunroof option for the Taos.
How does it perform against the rivals?
In the US markets, the Volkswagen Taos will try to grab a pie of Jeep Compass and Subaru Crosstrek’s market share. However, the Taos looks great for a highway cruise, instead of off-road trips. Also, Volkswagen does not get a separate off-roading trim or rugged design like its competition.
Power + Mileage = Balanced Performance:
One thing that will impress you is its well-balanced performance. The Taos is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which produces 158bhp of power and 249nm of torque. Offered with a variety of power-train options, the engine is expected to deliver a decent mileage. In terms of transmission, the front-wheel-drive derivatives of the Taos will get a conventional eight-speed automatic transmission, while the all-wheel-drive equipped examples will get a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Is there anything to boast?
Volkswagen boasts about its 4Motion all-wheel-drive option, which necessitates a switch to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models will also get a new rear suspension with a torsion beam in front-drivers and a multilink setup in 4Motion.
What about other features?
We can’t deny the long feature list of the upcoming Taos. It comes with features like- automatic headlights, push-button start, 8-way power driver seat, dual-zone climate control, rain-sensing wipers, a heated leatherette steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, heated side mirrors, and heated washer nozzles, as standard across all variants in the US.
The Taos has also been equipped with Volkswagen Digital Cockpit configurable instrument cluster as standard, along with an eight-inch infotainment screen. The upper variants also get 10-color ambient lighting and a premium eight-speaker music system from Beats.
When will it launch?
As per Volkswagen, the upcoming 2022 Taos will be offered in three different trims, produced at its plant in Mexico. Creating a sense of mystery around the SUV, Volkswagen has not revealed the price or launch date. However, we expect the Taos to be launched in the US by early 2021.
The Volkswagen Taos stands similar to Kia Seltos, in terms of dimensions. This makes it fit to enter in the SUV segment in India, which has the most aggressively competitive segment at present. Overall, the Taos looks like a good package, for the Indian market. However, Volkswagen has not confirmed anything about India’s launch yet. But we expect the Taos to arrive at our Indian shores, as Volkswagen is aggressively aiming to strengthen its position in the Indian markets with T-roc and Tiguan.
