The driver and the pilot both look ahead, highly focused. They wait for the starting signal. The famous French Tricolor drops and moments later, the asphalt begins to vibrate. The two set off alongside one another. The driver and the pilot look into the horizon and go full throttle. With tires on smooth tar, two engines ignite their afterburners and proverbially light up the black surface. The two machines of kin and shared legacy roar and disappear out of view in a matter of seconds.
Bugatti has just revealed images of a limited edition Chiron Sport ‘Les Legends du Ciel’ racing a Dassault Rafale Marine jet. Two machines at the pinnacle of engineering face each other at a naval base in Landivisiau, north-west France. The ultimate high-octane rendezvous between France’s top machines is nothing short of a spectacle to behold.
Some numbers – the Bugatti Chiron packs 1,500PS versus the jet’s 5,727PS. And while the Chiron can hit a top speed of 420kmph, the Rafale cane clock 1.6 Mach, which is an hit a top speed of 261mph. The jet? An infinitely cooler-sounding 1.6 Mach, which is a little over 1,900kmph. Phew!
It’s as exciting as it gets. Click here to watch the video
