There was a time, not too long ago, where the idea of a 50cc scooter wouldn’t have seemed that odd. But in 2021, with two-stroke engines long gone, it does. However, Aprilia recently unveiled a 50cc, single-cylinder motor that produces 3.2-bhp and 3.3-Nm of torque.
Upfront there’s an LED headlight with DRLS and LCD instrument cluster, which is the same as the one found in the SXR 160. It even gets the Aprilia MIA connectivity system, which is an optional extra which offers Bluetooth-enabled features. Other than that, the SXR 50 gets a 775mm seat height and 20-litre storage space under the seat.
Braking duties are handled by a 220mm front disc and a 140mm rear drum unit, while the SXR 50 makes use of a telescopic front fork and an adjustable rear monoshock (five-step). It rides on 12-inch alloy wheels shod in 120/70 section tyres. Moreover, there’s a USB port to charge mobile devices.
The Aprilia SXR 50 comes in four colours – Essence White, Instinctive Grey, Power Red and Enigma Black. So, would you fancy a small-capacity SXR to use around town for daily chores? Please do let us know your thoughts on the SXR 50 and if it would make sense in a country like ours. Once again, remember to take care and stay safe!
