Amidst all the chaos in the world, amidst all the challenges in the automotive sector, we continued to sail and delivered great automotive content. It’s time for retrospect and thanksgiving, and it all starts with you, our readers. It swells our chest with pride and the same feeling behind cranking a V12 every time we see our growing #TGCLAN and subscribers. Thank you. To all our advertisers and partners, a big Thank you. To my young team for continuously chasing the sun, burning rubber, gasoline and sleepless nights in search of great content. Cheers, and don’t stop till you can drive to the moon!

Topgear India Magazine Awards got wrapped up after one month of public voting, seeing 734,000 votes cast across categories. Finally, it was great to host and have all the automotive industry leaders come together and celebrate the best of automobiles, with Mahindra XUV700 bagging the TopGear India Magazine 2022 – Car of the Year. Chips are down! Semiconductor shortage has continued to cripple the automotive industry globally, resulting in a soaring used car market. With its “retail of the future” concept being in play, Mercedes has made the buying process transparent and direct with the consumers. Sometime in the future, we will know how effective this bold strategy has eventually played up. BMW has won the pole position with the maximum number of cars sold [2.03 Million] in the luxury segment, and Toyota tops the charts with 7.35M globally. China continues to be the biggest automobile market with 21.12 million cars sold in 2021, followed by the USA with 15.03 Million. India grew 26.8% over 2020 and sold 3.10 Million vehicles making us the fourth largest market. Albeit the gap is enormous, the potential to grow is seven times more when compared with China.

We had to do something special for the secondanniversary edition, and that’s what we did. We took the Mercedes GLC to Andaman. It was a logistical challenge, and that made it exciting. You don’t have luxury cars in Portblair except for a few entry-level luxury vehicles and seldom seen on the roads. We had to get it shipped from Chennai, and shipping times are uncertain and can go up to 15 days depending on various factors. We were treading cautiously, knowing that if anything happened to the GLC in Andaman, getting it fixed, towed and sent back would be a nightmare. Luckily Andaman roads are beautiful, and everything that you see from the car is green, fresh and winding roads. We had our story, but a cyclone had been predicted, making us cut our trip short and the first publication to take a luxury SUV like Mercedes GLC to Andaman and back.

To make this Annual Issue 22 special, we invited a hardcore fan of TopGear, who had been reading page to page since his teenage years and is now a superstar – Ranveer Singh. His garage is every petrolhead’s dream- Aston Martin Rapide, Lamborghini Urus, Mercedes GLS Maybach, etc. We had flown to Abu Dhabi, the Yas Marina circuit, to shoot content with Ranveer, who struck a pose for the Cover and raced with me on the circuit. I could see the child-like enthusiasm in him, and his passion for cars was oozing. Later I drove him in the Lamborghini Huracan Capsule Fluo From Abu Dhabi to Dubai and had a non-stop, free flowing conversation for the entire drive centred around automobiles. It was a 1.5 Hours drive, and his designated Rolls Royce was trailing us. Videos will drop soon on your youtube channel. No better way to kick off our 2nd-anniversary celebration! Enjoy the Issue.
