BMW has launched the petrol version of the 2 Series Gran Coupe at Rs 40.90 lakh. The 220i is available in a single M Sport trim and will be sold alongside the two diesel variants.
The M Sport as we have seen on the diesel will get a more aggressive design for the exterior and will be a sportier offering.
With the 220i you now get a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that makes 187bhp and 280Nm. Power is transferred via an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Being an M Sport you can expect it to have strong driving dynamics along with excellent refinement from the petrol engine. According to BMW, a dash from 0-100kph will take just 7.1 secs thanks to launch control.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India said, “BMW India continues to expand its product range as per evolving trends in the luxury car segment. We believe in offering the power of choice when it comes to fulfilling the mobility needs and desires of BMW enthusiasts. Designed with a focus on performance and sportiness, the new BMW 220i M Sport demonstrates powerful uniqueness that suits the requirements of motorsport fans. With the dynamics of a petrol engine, first-class driving characteristics, and the highest comfort, ‘Sheer Driving Pleasure’ is guaranteed every time.”
Features and equipment are carried over from the diesel version which means you get LED headlamps and taillamps, 17-inch alloy wheels a 10.2-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, a parking assistant, and a lot more. Safety too is the same with six airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, cornering assist, and a lot more.
The 220i will be offered in six paint shades with Alpine White, Misano Blue, Storm Bay, Melbourne Red, Black Sapphire, and Snapper Rocks Blue. As of now, it is the sole car in its segment until the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine arrives. However, it is that one step up from the Skoda Superb.
