BMW India has launched the new 6 Series in India earlier today. Prices for the 6 Series range between Rs 67.90 lakh to Rs 77.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Bookings have already commenced via BMW dealerships, and customers who book before the 30th of April 2021 can avail additional benefits on limited units. Included is a complimentary BMW accessories and lifestyle collection products worth INR 1.5 Lakh. The 6 Series is sold in three trim options – 630i M Sport, 620d Luxury Line and a 630d M Sport.
Engines of the 6 Series
Under the hood of the 6 series lies three different engines; one is a 2.0-litre twin-turbo 4-cylinder petrol engine which produces 255 bhp and 400 Nm of torque with a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in just 6.5 seconds. The second engine is a 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel engine which produces 188 bhp and peak toque of 400 Nm with 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 7.9 seconds. Also on offer is a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged 6-cylinder in-line diesel engine which produces 261 bhp and 620 Nm of torque, propelling the 630d from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.1 seconds. All engines are mated to an 8-speed steptronic sports automatic gearbox sending its power to the rear wheels.
Exteriors of the 6 Series
There are some prominent changes in the 6 Series GT design elements such as a redesigned front and rear bumper, the large kidney grille, and a sleeker design for the LED headlights are some of the noticeable changes. Overall the design elements of the 6GT remain largely unchained and still follow a coupe-like design with the roof tapering towards the rear and frameless windows along with an active rear spoiler on the boot lip.
Interiors of the 6 Series
While the exterior changes are visible, the interiors’ changes are more focused on technology; new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment replaces the old system, including Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay. Also new is the ‘Reversing Assistant’ feature that assists the driver by self-steering the vehicle while reversing for up to 50 meters. Apart from these two features, all the other tech that was previously available is carried forward, such as the 360-degree parking camera, automatic parking, four-zone climate control, electrically adjustable rear seats, panoramic sunroof, LED headlights (now offered with a Laser light function on the higher M Sport trim), air suspension and doors with a soft close function.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India, said, “The new BMW 6 Series recrafts luxury and adds a truly unique dimension to the executive class segment. It has the practicality of a crossover, the dynamics of a sports car, the silhouette of a fastback and the luxury of a sedan. The personality of the BMW 6 Series distinguishes it clearly from the crowd and is the reason for its long-lasting success. It is the vehicle of choice for modern leaders who expect the best luxury and comfort when they are at the rear. And nothing short of ‘Sheer Driving Pleasure’ when they take the wheel. It is an expression of style and beckons those who won’t settle for anything but the best.”
