BMW has launched the 3 Series M340i XDrive in India earlier today and it is priced at Rs 62.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The M340i is the first high-performance BMW with an M engine that is locally produced at the BMW Group Plant in Chennai.
Speaking of the engine, the BMW M340i xDrive is powered by a 3.0-litre straight six-cylinder petrol engine producing 387bhp and 500Nm of torque which is mated to an eight-speed steptronic sport automatic transmission with paddle shifters. BMW also claims that it can do the 0 to 100km/h stint in just 4.4 seconds making it the quickest car to be produced in India. The BMW offers three driving modes – ECO, SPORT and SPORT+ which can improve the dynamic driving even further by transferring power to the rear wheels.
What is also unique to the M340i is BMW’s xDrive system which is a segment first, the all-wheel-drive system monitors the driving situations and ensures maximum traction, agility and vehicle stability. The M Sport rear differential which is offered as standard by controlling the distribution of power to each individual wheel. Also on offer is the M Sport suspension which reduces the ride height by 10 mm and features more rigid bearings and body struts, firm springs and anti-roll bars. The M Sport brake along with the BMW performance control system increases the stability of the car by targeted braking of the wheels. The M340i also offers a M Sport exhaust as standard.
On the exterior, the BMW M340i stands apart from the regular 3 Series with some subtle performance bits such as a body colored M rear spoiler, exterior mirror caps finished in cerium grey metallic, blue brake calipers with the M logo and an 18-inch M light alloy wheels. Buyers can also opt for 19-inch M light alloy wheels as an optional extra. Inside the M340i, the difference between the performance version and the standard version is a bit more prominent with the sport seats with M-specific upholstery in a sensatec/alcantara trim, anthracite BMW Individual roof liner, M leather steering wheel with shift paddles, M seat belt and interior trim strips in aluminum tetragon.
