BMW India has launched a new variant of the X1 called the X1 20i Tech Edition earlier today. This Tech Edition is priced at Rs 43 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It is available in limited units that can be booked only via BMW’s online website.
What is new?
Compared to the other trim levels on the X1, the X1 20i Tech Edition adds a whole host of features to its equipment list. As standard, the Tech Edition spec offers a larger 10.25-inch central touchscreen infotainment system that can also be operated with the rotary iDrive controller. Additionally, BMW has also added wireless charging, a heads-up display, and the speakers are upgraded to a 205W Hi-Fi Surround Sound system.
The exterior design of the X1 remains the same as its other trim levels, but instead of the 17-inch alloys, BMW provides the X1 20i Tech Edition with 18-inch alloys as standard.
As mentioned previously, the additions to the Tech Edition are minimum. Like the other trim levels of the X1, it too all the other features as standard, such as the large panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable seats with memory, six-colour ambient lighting, wireless Apple CarPlay and more. In terms of the safety features, the X1 includes six airbags, Attentiveness Assistance, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), electric parking brake with auto hold, etc.
The BMW X1 20i Tech Edition is powered by the twin-turbocharged 2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 189bhp and 280Nm of torque which sends power to the front wheels via a 7-speed steptronic gearbox. BMW claims that it can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 7.7 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 226km/h. It is also worth mentioning that the Tech Edition can only be opted with a petrol powertrain and not a diesel engine.
BMW X1 India line-up and competition
With the launch of the BMW X1 tech edition, the current line-up of BMW X1 models in India consists of – The sDrive20i SportX, sDrive20i xLine, sDrive20d xLine and now the top-spec sDrive 20i Tech Edition. In terms of competition, the X1 competes with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLA, Volvo XC40 and the Mini Countryman.
