Half of the year 2022 passed by at a leisure pace. Supply chain issues severely hit the automobile industry, but manufacturers positively coped with increasing demand with updated and fresh new models. YoY (Year-on-Year) growth is steadily rising, and in this article, we analyse MoM ( Month-on-Month ) sales data of India’s leading auto manufacturers.
India’s largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki, holds the top spot in the sales chart of passenger vehicles. However, there is a 1.28 percent decrease in sales volume compared to June 2021. The number of units sold in June 2022 is 1,22,685.
In the mini-segment portfolio, the sales of Alto and S-Presso were 14,442 units. In comparison, sales in the compact segment portfolio containing WagonR, Celerio, Ignis, Swift, Baleno, and Dzire were 77,746 units. The combined sales figures of Brezza, Ertiga,XL6 ,S-Cross were 18,860.Eeco Van managed to clock sales of 10,130 units. Only 1507 Ciaz were sold in June 2022.
2) Hyundai Motors
South Koren manufacturer Hyundai Motors managed to clock sales of 49001 units and export sales of 13350 units, with cumulative sales of 62351 units for June 2022. The overall sales figure is approximately 50 percent less than Maruti Suzuki’s. However, the sales figure grew by 14 percent compared to May 22. Hyundai has ten cars in its portfolio across segments- Grand i10 Nios, i20, i20 N Line, Aura, Venue, Verna, Creta, Alcazar, Tucson and Kona Electric. 3) Tata Motors
Tata Motors has scripted tremendous growth in recent years. They have managed to clock YoY growth of 87 per cent in the domestic passenger vehicle segment. Tata Motors recorded a total of 45,197 units of passenger vehicle sales in June 2022. They currently have Tiago, Tigor, Altroz, Nexon, Harrier and Safari in their ICE portfolio. Its Tigor EV and Nexon EV have taken early mover advantage in mobility transformation, giving Tata Motors healthy sales benefits.
4) Kia Motors
Despite being the latest entrant in the Indian market, Kia Motors have gained quite a popularity in the Indian market. Today, the company recorded sales of 24,024 units in June 2022, its highest ever monthly sales. According to company reports, the company registered 60% Y-o-Y growth over June 2021 and 26% over H1, 2021. The Kia Seltos and Carens lead the sales momentum with 8,388 and 7,895 units sold, respectively, followed by Sonet with 7,455 units and Carnival with 285 units sold.
VW 2.0 strategy seems to be quite working with Skoda India. The brand managed to sell 6023 units, a mammoth 721 per cent growth Y-O-Y. Skoda sold just 734 units in June 2021. Also, they overtook 2021 annual sales at the half-year mark in 2022 by clocking 28,899 sales in H1 2022.
6) Volkswagen India
Like its sister company, Skoda Auto, VW also registered respectable growth in its sales figure. In H1 2022, the brand sold 21,588 units of its product portfolio versus 10,843 units in H1 2021. All thanks to its latest strategies of launching a sporty sedan Virtus in the Indian market recently. Moreover, Tiguan and Tiagun also brought glory to the sales chart. However, VW has not provided any specific sales data for June 2022.
7)Mahindra & Mahindra
M&M has created quite a buzz on social media with its Scorpio-N lately. Also, in recent years they have pretty much uplifted their product portfolio. In the passenger vehicles segment, Mahindra sold 26620 cars in June 2022. The waiting period for Thar and XUV700 is still quite a lot, and if you are lucky enough, you will get yours soon. And with the recently launched Scorpio-N, the sales figures are expected to grow manifold.
MG Motors also managed steady growth in its sales figure. They have recorded 4,503 unit sales in June 2022, with a Y-o-Y growth of 27% over June 2021. According to MG Motors, Hector and ZS EV witness strong interest amongst buyers, with consistent monthly bookings of over 4,000 and 1,000, respectively.
9)Nissan Motors India
Nissan Motors India heavily banked on its subcompact SUV -Magnite. The Magnite seems to be quite successful for the brand, with cumulative bookings of over 1 lakh units since its launch. Nissan India sold 8012 units in June 2022, in which domestic wholesale contributed 3515 units and Export wholesale contributed 4497 units. According to Nissan, booking momentum continues to be strong, with over 31% of bookings through Nissan’s digital ecosystem with a pending pipeline of 16,000 plus bookings.
