Yes, you read that right! FCA-owned Italian luxury brand Maserati has announced the arrival of an all-new hybrid-powered Ghibli soon. More good news – it will be the first in a line of new vehicles from Maserati. As you may have guessed, this will be the first hybrid engine used in the history of Maserati. The will be a new chapter in Italian marque’s rich and colourful history, with the ‘signature trident’ now becoming ‘a lightning-rod’, thus ‘channelling the energy from the atmosphere and infusing it with the DNA of the historic master of Italian engineering’, is how folks at Maserati like to put it.
For the uninitiated, the Ghibli is one of the most iconic models to come from Modena, Italy. Introduced back in 1966, the Ghibli started out its life as a coupe. It was designed by the legendary Giorgetto Giugiaro. Over the years, Maserati has developed many versions of the Ghibli. Currently, the Ghibli is sold globally in two different trims with five different versions. For the announcement of the Ghibli Hybrid, Maserati has released a set of images and a video with lightning striking down on the famed trident logo of the Italian manufacturer. Quite epic, isn’t it?
Maserati had originally planned to debut the Ghibli Hybrid at the 2020 Bejing Motor Show. However, the Covid-19 outbreak had put a halt to all those plans. Rumours suggest that the Ghibli could come equipped with a plug-in hybrid system. Furthermore, this will just the beginning of Maserati’s plans for electrification. Expect a similar or the same hybrid powertrain to make its way to the Levante and Quattroporte, as well. No matter how one rolls the dice, this is one exciting piece of news!
