Introduced for the first time on the legendary Ducati 851 back in 1991, this acronym marked the versions that formed the basis for developing racing bikes used in the Sport Production Championship, a precursor of the current Superstock. Even today, in Ducati, the abbreviation “SP” is used to recognise a production motorcycle with equipment that makes it faster on the track. Now Ducati has launched the SP (Sport Production) version of its top-dog superbike, the Panigale V4.
Aesthetically, the Panigale V4 SP varies from the Panigale V4 S with a new “Winter Test” livery that takes inspiration from Ducati Corse bikes used in the pre-season tests of SBK Championships and MotoGP. The fairings are finished in matte black with bright red accents along with a brushed aluminium tank. The steering head is machined from a billet with a progressive bike number shown on it, while the single-seat configuration comes with a “V4 SP” logo embossed. Other tidbits include wings, a front mudguard finished in carbon fibre and adjustable rider footpegs in billet aluminium with carbon heel guards.
The Panigale V4 SP’s Desmosedici Stradale engine comes equipped with a dry clutch system and is coupled to a final drive with a 520 pitch chain which is lighter than usual. Optional accessories include an open carbon clutch cover, caps for easier removal of mirrors and license plate holder, DDA+ (Ducati Data Analyzer) that works as a telemetry kit, along with GPS that allows you to analyse your track performance. Ducati claims that an amateur rider on the Panigale V4 SP will be faster than riding the more demanding Panigale V4 R version.
Powered by a 1,103 cc 90° V4 that features a Desmodromic distribution derived from MotoGP and paired with a unique counter-rotating crankshaft with a “Twin Pulse” firing order. This motor produces 214 bhp of power at 13,000 rpm and 123 Nm of torque at 9,500 rpm. Compared to the wet clutch found on the Panigale V4 S, the STM EVO-SBK dry clutch found on the V4 SP is made from billet aluminium and claims to grant a more effective anti-hop function even under the most aggressive downshifts. Braking is taken care of by top-shelf Brembo Stylema Calipers, Brembo brake pump with MCS system that’s mated to a pair of beautiful Marchesini Forged Magnesium Wheels. These wheels offer a significant reduction in rolling inertia to boost agility and ease changes of direction.
Like the Panigale V4 S, the SP version is also equipped with an Öhlins NIX-30 fork, Öhlins TTX36 rear shock absorber and an Öhlins steering damper controlled by the second generation Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 system. This system allows the rider to customise the intensity of intervention on the suspension according to individual riding phases (braking, cornering, and acceleration). In addition, it allows the rider to have a softer basic setting and, therefore, more accessible and less demanding than that of a standard suspension, stiffening instantly only when necessary.
The Panigale V4 SP is equipped with a state-of-the-art electronic package based on the 6-axis Bosch inertial platform, including controls for managing all riding phases. The Panigale V4 SP also incorporates Ducati Traction Control EVO 3 (DTC EVO 3), developed for 2021. This system intervenes during the reopening of the throttle in the middle of a corner, intending to make acceleration out of corners more manageable and more predictable.

The Panigale V4 SP comes with a high-resolution 5” full-TFT colour dashboard which, through an intuitive interface, also allows you to adjust the settings of the individual controls. The Panigale V4 SP is also equipped with the Ducati Data Analyzer+ (DDA+) kit with a GPS module. The Ducati Data Analyzer+ is a telemetry system comparable to those used in racing competitions, which consists of a device for data acquisition via CAN line, and analysis software for Windows and Mac PCs inspired by the professional applications.
This device stores vehicle usage parameters such as trajectories, RPM, gear, throttle opening angle, engine rpm, front brake pressure, DTC etc., and geolocates them on the route. Once disconnected from the bike and inserted into the computer’s USB port, the software allows you to analyse your performance on the racetrack.
The Panigale V4 SP is priced at INR 36.07 Lacs (Ex-Showroom India), and bookings are now open across all Ducati dealerships in India, with deliveries starting immediately.
