Ford India has introduced a new SE variant for the EcoSport and is priced at Rs 10.49 lakh for the petrol and Rs 10.99 lakh for the diesel (ex-showroom, Delhi respectively). The SE variant slots below the top-trim S variant of the Ford EcoSport.

On the exterior, the Ford EcoSport retains most of its butch looks but at the rear, the SE variant features a redesigned tailgate which doesn’t comprise of the rear-mounted spare tyre that was distinctive to the EcoSport. Also on the rear, the placement of the number plate has moved from the rear bumper to the tailgate and features a chrome trim piece on the top of the number plate holder. The rear bumpers too see a slight design change with the addition of the silver piece. Instead of the spare tyre, buyers will be offered with an easy to use puncture kit. That being said, customers still have the option to buy the SE variant with a rear-mounted spare tyre.

The SE variant is offered with the 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine which produces 120bhp and 149Nm of torque while the diesel engine on offer is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder which produces 99bhp and 215Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and no option for an automatic. Safety tech such as ABS/EBD, rear reversing camera, rear wipers with defogger are all retained in the SE and Titanium variant. While compared to the Titanium variant, the SE gets additional features such as tyre pressure monitor, dual front, side and curtain airbags, ESC, traction control, hill-start assist, auto HID headlights and wipers, cruise control, Ford’s SYNC 3 8.0-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility all as standard.

Speaking at the launch, Mr Vinay Raina, executive director, Marketing, Sales & Service at Ford India stated, “Customers increasingly follow global benchmarks in design and look for things that are unique and distinctive, just like the new EcoSport SE, the SE carries forward EcoSport’s fun to drive credentials as well as its rich legacy of outstanding safety and best-in-segment technologies like SYNC 3.”

As per its rivals, the EcoSport faces some tough competition in the compact-SUV segment from the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Toyota Urban Cruiser and also from the newest kids in the block, the Nissan Magnite and the Renault Kiger.
