Sony showcased the latest installment of Gran Turismo racing series during the reveal of its upcoming PlayStation 5 console. Gran Turismo 7 comes to us a full seven years after Gran Turismo 6, and while the franchise released Gran Turismo Sport in 2017, it wasn’t a fully developed game title like the others in the series.
Gran Turismo 7 reintroduces the GT Mode career, presented in its recognisable map screen format and complete with the return of tuning shops. There’s also classic fictional circuit Trial Mountain, which has been offering outrageous final chicane corner cutting since the very first Gran Turismo. Don’t pretend you haven’t partaken.
Shown in the video trailer are cars we haven’t seen in the GT franchise before, like a Porsche 356 Carerra; and a Porsche 917 race car. The main takeaway from the trailer is just how beautifully rendered the cars are. This goes not just for the exteriors but for the fully modelled interiors, complete with working lights and buttons. This obsessive attention to detail has been a mark of the Gran Turismo series since its inception.
The release date hasn’t been announced yet, but what we are certain of is that the GT7 will live exclusively on the PlayStation 5 console. We hope it’s somewhere around the corner, it gives us the perfect reason to get back into racing sims during the lockdown!
