In the past, the words ‘plug-in hybrid’ and ‘Grand Cherokee’ would’ve never been that close. But now, there’s a new world emerging. One that plans to do away with gas-guzzling engines and pesky fuel emission norms. Jeep, too, feels the same way and has unveiled a plug-in hybrid version of their mighty Grand Cherokee. This reveal happened recently at the Stellantis EV Day 2021. These images that you see are the first ones of the all-new 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid. Pretty exciting stuff, isn’t it? Well, yes, if you prefer visuals over actual information. That’s because that’s all we really know about this mysterious Grand Cherokee 4xe. We should have more information on this plug-in hybrid version once we’re closer to the global launch.
However, like the Wrangler 4xe, it should get 4WD electric mode, along with the same powertrain and PHEV system. There are other interesting features that experts suggest could make it to the Grand Cherokee 4xe. How do autonomous off-roading, biometric recognition and drone headlamps sound? A little far fetched, maybe? That doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen. For the past 30 years, the Grand Cherokee has won multiple awards and achieved a global sales figure of over seven million. It’s one of those SUVs you’d spot in films from 90’s Hollywood movies. Especially those early models with that typical squared-up design and V8 engines. Nonetheless, the fifth-generation Grand Cherokee has come a long way.
The aforementioned plug-in version will be unveiled at the 2021 New York International Auto Show and will include the full range of the Grand Cherokee lineup. Come next month, which is when this year’s New York International Auto Show will take place, there’ll be a whole lot more we’ll get to know about Jeep’s latest. By the way, there are two other plug-in hybrid models from the Stellantis-owned company as well – Compass 4xe and Renegade 4xe. The brand officials state that the Grand Cherokee 4xe is another step toward Jeep’s vision of “Zero Emission, 100% Freedom” in a year.
