Chrysler has been making Jeep Wrangler marquee since 1987, though the model Jeep is as old as WW II. Wrangler is presently in its 4th edition, with YJ, TJ, LJ and JK editions rolled in the last 24 years by Chrysler. Rubicon is one model of wrangler that was started in 2003 by the company. Though it is hard for a commoner to tell Wrangler and Rubicon’s differences, there are differences in design and features highlighted below.

What is the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited?

Wrangler vs Rubicon

Let me start by stating that both the Wrangler’s variants share the same underpinnings and share the same engine, but the Unlimited is catered more towards an owner who isn’t a hard-core off-roader. The Unlimited features automatic headlamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, soft-touch premium leather finish dash, ambient LED interior lighting, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, steering wheel mounted audio controls with integrated voice command, rearview auto-dimming mirror, electronic stability control, advanced front and side airbags and also an 80th-anniversary celebration badging.

All the kit mentioned above is also provided with the Rubicon variant of the Wrangler but what makes it stand out is that the Rubicon is a much more hard-core off-roader. The Rubicon has larger rims, tires, diamond plates etc., to make and feel heavier. The most significant difference between a Wrangler and a Rubicon lies in Rubicon’s locking front and rear differentials. Another difference lies in its Dana 44 axles front and rear. It also has a different gear differential (4:1) than Wrangler. Having larger wheels, ride height on Rubicon is much more than in Wrangler. Thus, it is better in rough terrains, and if one is fond of off-road driving, Rubicon is certainly one up on Wrangler.

Wrangler vs Rubicon

To explain in brief, the Wrangler Rubicon is catered to someone who is a much more hard-core off-roader and uses their vehicle in that manner. In contrast, the Wrangler Unlimited is catered towards a buyer who prefers a little more creature comforts in their Wrangler.
