Jehan Daruvala from Mumbai has won the Sakhir Grand Prix in Bahrain. He is currently competing in the Formula 2 Championship that feature the likes of Mick Schumacher who won the championship in the same race. Formula 2 Championship is the final step for a racing driver before you reach the pinnacle of motorsports that is Formula 1.
Jehan is the first Indian to achieve this feat of winning a race in an F2 race. Although, there have been Indians competing in the Formula 1 championship such as Narayan Karthikeyan and Karun Chandhok. The Sakhir Grand Prix is the last one of the season and this race also summarises the season for Jehan. He did not have the best of starts but as the season progressed his performances have been impressive.
Jehan and his teammate Yuki Tsunoda are both part of Carling team which is 3rd in the Constructors championship. Currently, Mick Schumacher has been guaranteed an F1 seat with Haas Racing and we only hope with this win the door to F1 opens for Jehan as well. Motorsport in India is not recognised to a large extent but hopefully, with people like Jehan, India will soon be on the motorsport map of the world. He could also inspire young boys and girls to get into motorsport. Let’s hope we have another face in F1 from our country soon.
