Kia Motors is all set to launch its flagship MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), the Carens, which will fit between the brand’s highest-selling model, the Seltos and the Carnival. The brand has begun the pre-launch booking of its 7-seater MPV with the token amount of Rs.25000 only. Though being the new entrant in the Indian market, Kia Motors has achieved quite a bit of success by providing premium and innovative models to its consumers. Now, the brand’s latest MPV is all set to be another game-changer, and here are the top 10 things you need to know about the Carens.
Kia Carens will come with three engine options, starting with a 1.5-litre, naturally aspirated motor producing 112bhp of power and 144Nm of torque. However, MPV also gets a powerful 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine churning out around 138bhp of power and 242Nm of torque. The Carens also gets a 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 250 Nm of ample torque with 113bhp of power.
The 1.5-litre N-A engine is mated to only a 6-speed manual gearbox, whereas the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine comes with an option of a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed DCT gearbox. The diesel engine is mated with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Kia Carens gets the longest wheelbase of 2780mm in its segment, making it one of the most spaces cars. The MPV is 4540mm long, 1800mm wide and 1708mm tall. With 2780mm of wheelbase, It’s 40mm longer than Ertiga and XL6’s wheelbase. Moreover, the Carens’ wheelbase is 20 mm longer than the Alcazar.
The MPV comes with five options, starting with the basic Premium trim, which gets 16-inch steel wheels with covers and a 7.5-inch digital instrument cluster. Basic safety features such as 6 airbags, ABS, ESC, all-wheel disc brake are standard across all variants. In addition to premium trim, the Prestige variant gets a 12.5-inch LCD instrument cluster, a 6-speaker sound system, a rearview camera with front parking sensors. With Prestige Plus, you get 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, keyless entry and most importantly, the DCT gearbox option is available from Prestige plus and the above trims. The luxury trim gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Kia Connect UI, 64-ambient lighting and an air purifier. The luxury-plus variant is the top of the line variant of the Carens, which features a sunroof, an 8-speaker BOSE sound system, ventilated seats and wireless chargers.
5) Feature-rich Interiors
The interior of the Kia Carens is based on the design pillar – ‘Joy for reason’, which overall looks and feels quite aesthetic and warm. Just like other Kia, the cabin looks a lot more stylish, and premium with a high glass black layout with chrome garnished near AC knobs, center console, and the steering wheel.

The middle-row seats will be electrically operated, which will create a sense of convenience for accessing the 3-row seats. With just the press of one button, seats will tumble down, making ingress and egress an easy affair.

10) Sunroof and roof-mounted AC vents
The addition of a sunroof makes the car look more spacious and airy from the inside. The highest selling Innova Crysta, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and XL6 miss out on sunroof. At the same time, Hyundai Alcazar features a sunroof but don’t get roof-mounted AC vents. The Carens comes with both sunroof and roof-mounted AC vents.
