After so many rumors and speculations, the big cat is finally out of the bag now as the new Carens makes its global debut in India today. Kia Corporation has unveiled its fourth masterpiece for the Indian market, which offers the practicality of MPV with the presence and stance of an SUV.
The Kia Carens is here in the flesh with all its glory. Overall the car looks a lot younger with the essence of maturity. It seems absolutely dynamic and sophisticated. On the front, we get sleek LED DRLs which is based on Kia’s new signature lighting concept – ‘The Star Map’. It has good eye-catching characteristics , starting with chrome garnish on the front bumper with tiger-nose grilles. When viewed from the sides, it looks pretty substantial thanks to its 2780mm of class-leading wheelbase. The black body cladding over the wheels adds a little bold flavor to its design. Dual-tone 16-inch crystal cut alloy wheels look in total proportional to the car’s overall stance. At the rear, the Carens get a chrome rear bumper garnished with a diamond knurling pattern. Another notable design element includes wraparound LED tail lamps connected with a slim LED strip.
The interior of the Kia Carens is based on the design pillar – ‘Joy for reason’, which overall looks and feels quite aesthetic and warm. The Cabin looks a lot more stylish, and premium with a high glass black layout with chrome garnished near AC knobs, center console as well as on the steering wheel. A 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system takes center stage of the dashboard with connected technology features, whereas the fully digital instrument cluster gives the driver all the essential information. All three-seats rows in the Carens combines comfort with aesthetics by matching materials, patterns and colours in an elegant manner.
The Kia Carens comes with all bells and whistle that Indian customer aspires. It gets equipped with BOSE Premium Sound System with eight speakers. It has also got a smart pure air purifier with virus and bacteria Protection, which is sort of an essential feature in a highly polluted atmosphere. SkyLight sunroof, ventilated front seats with 64 colour ambient mood lighting further enhances the overall ownership experience of the car.
And as far as safety features are concerned, the Carnes offers six airbags, anti-lock braking, electronic brake distribution, hill-assist control, downhill brake control, electronic stability control, rear parking cameras with sensors, all four disc brakes and vehicle stability management as standard across all variants.
The advent of connected features in cars is taking a rapid growth. The Carens now gets the next generation Kia-Connect app, which replaces the previous UVO system. It currently hosts updated and exciting features with added safety and convenience. Now, with the Carens, one does not have to visit the workshop to get its software updated; it will now be future proof with OTA updates.
Kia hasn’t given any confirmation on the engine options yet, but we believe it will be powered by both petrol and diesel engine options which we used to get in the Seltos. There are two petrol engines and one diesel engine. The petrol engine options include a 1.5 litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated motor that churns out 115 hp and 144 Nm and a 1.4 litre, four-cylinder turbocharged unit producing 140 hp and 242 Nm. Meanwhile, the diesel engine gets a 1.5 litre, four-litre engine that develops 115hp and 250Nm. There will be three driving modes on offer named Sports, Eco, and Normal. Gearbox options with petrol engines will come equipped with a 6-speed manual for a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine. Whereas, 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine shall come equipped with 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox and a 6-speed manual.
Kia believes in revolutionizing its segment by providing class-leading features to modern Indian families with innovative designs. Kia Carens is expected to reach the shores in the first quarter of 2022. With pricing not yet reviled, we believe the expected price bracket will be between 15 lakh to 20lakh (ex-showroom), which will go against the newly launched XUV-700, Hyundai Alcazar, Tata safari and MG Hector plus.
