Mahindra made big headlines today with the unveil of the brand name of its much-awaited SUV, built on the W601 platform, as the XUV700. Essentially the replacement of the XUV500, the XUV700 is an all-new global product that Mahindra claims ‘will redefine benchmarks’ in the SUV segment. The brand is certainly coming all guns blazing with enthusiastic engines, futuristic features and safety features as well, all combining to make a very strong and promising product.

The XUV700 will offer both diesel and petrol engines in manual and automatic transmissions, along with optional All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) drivetrains.

Speaking on the brand name announcement, Veejay Nakra, CEO – Automotive Division, M&M Ltd. said, “The XUV700, one of the most awaited offerings from Mahindra is sure to hit the sweet spot with customers. Built on the new W601 platform, XUV700 marks the beginning of the next generation of sophisticated and authentic Mahindra SUVs which will offer an adrenaline rush like never before.”

The XUV700, which is slated to be launched 2022, will be manufactured at the company’s manufacturing facility at Chakan in Maharashtra.

Will the XUV500 be reinstated? Likely, given how strong Mahindra’s SUV presence and portfolio is. The brand might bring back the SUV in a slightly smaller avatar to fill in the gap between the XUV300 and the XUV700.
