Maserati has taken the wraps off the Levante Hybrid and what better day to do it. Earth Day is all about caring for the planet and hybrids are surely the way forward. But a hybrid on the trident badge? Well, it has worked as the Levante continues to carry forward the essence of Maserati which is style and performance.

Levante Hybrid

The design is still suave and stylish with the massive grille up front and there is no ‘Hybrid’ badging anywhere on the car. But you do have a new pain shade called ‘Azzurro Astro’ and some blue elements scattered around showing its nature-loving side. What is carried forward is the aggressive front end with the power lines on the bonnet and the twin chrome exhaust tips that are assuring enough that there is some time before the stunning Maserati growl is replaced by an electric whine.

The interior too is exquisite with ‘style’ being the point of focus. The layout, the massive touchscreen and the overall cabin scream posh and stylish and here too you will spot blue bits that signify its Hybrid nature. Add to that the Maserati Connect app and you can now keep a closer look on your trident.

However, the big difference lies under that sculpted bonnet. Powering the Levante Hybrid is a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that develops 325bhp and 450Nm. Strong numbers, but more importantly, you get a 48V hybrid system. This helps generate energy otherwise lost during deceleration and braking resulting in better efficiency and cleaner emissions. Power is transferred to all four wheels via a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox. It is quick too with a 0-100kph time of just 6.0 secs and a top speed of 240kph.

The Levante Hybrid is just the second hybrid offering following the Ghibli Hybrid last year. And if you are wondering where should you go to buy one, ‘Petal Maserati’, based in Mumbai.
