A certain German company going by the name of Mercedes has launched the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4 MATIC+ in India at INR 2.45 Crore (Ex-showroom). Being a CBU unit, one can go to great lengths to spec the car as per their choice. The car will sit on top of Mercedes’ Indian EV product portfolio. This launch has also marked the beginning of the wave of Mercedes-Benz’s global line-up reaching India.
Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ Powertrain
The new Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ is based on Mercedes’ EVA 2 platform and, in its India spec, gets two permanently agitated synchronous motors (PSMs) that produce 762hp and 1020Nm. The AMG Performance 4MATIC+ AWD system can send up to 100% of the 762hp to the rear wheels. All this enables the car to do a claimed 0-100 in 3.4 seconds. The vehicle has a claimed top speed of 250km/h. The 107.8kWh battery supports up to 200kWh DC fast charging. The car claims a power consumption of 23.9-21.5 kWh/100 Km on the WLTP cycle, giving it a claimed range of 529-586 Km. Real-world performance will be shared once we get to drive the car.

The design is not something new; we have all seen it before in foreign spec cars, and allow me to confirm that the vehicle is even more stunning in person. The pictures do not do justice to the car. Here are the key highlights of the AMG model:
- High-gloss black front splitter with chrome trim & AMG specific black panel radiator grille with vertical struts (AKA the Pan-Americana Grille) give the car an ultra-aggressive front, fit for its numbers.
- The front bonnet overlaps the wings giving it a clamshell effect & the Illuminated retractable door handles. All this, clubbed with the “One-bow” design, gives the car a coupé-like silhouette. All this boosts the car’s drag coefficient to 0.23, one of the lowest in the industry.
- Digital light strip/band that runs at both the front & the back give it a distinctive road presence (not that it was less without those).
- 3 cm (21-inch) AMG cross-spoke light-alloy wheels in matt black with red brake callipers.
Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ Interior Design & Features
The new Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ comes with features galore. It includes digital lights containing 1.3 million pixels per headlamp. Also, it features Mercedes’ adaptive high beam assist plus an anti-dazzle continuous high beam. The interior gets special sporty touches to add the AMG essence to the mix. This includes Instrument panels & beltlines in ARTICO man-made leather, AMG sports pedals, AMG performance steering wheel, AMG floor mats, and door sill trims with AMG lettering.
Of course, then there’s the MBUX Hyperscreen which is essentially the car’s brains. A 141cm wide screen with 12 actuators for haptic feedback and 46.4 GB/s memory bandwidth. Forgive me for nerding out! The screen has a 2,432 cm2 surface area equipped with AI learning that enables adaptive display for the screen. The Hyperscreen allows the users to set up to seven co-driver profiles for content individualisation. These profiles are accessible using three different biometric authentications; face, fingerprint and voice recognition. These personal profiles can save over 800 parameters for each driver. Cool, isn’t it? The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ is part of the upcoming co-driver screen trend. And it is brilliant! The car senses when the driver looks at the co-driver’s screen and automatically dims it to avoid distractions. The car comes with 350+ sensors for all kinds of safety-related features. After all, safety is the top priority for Daimler. Regarding safety, pollution is as much a threat as any other, which is why the car comes equipped with air filtration equipment to keep the air pure.
Nothing makes this car more AMG than the AMG-specific track page and track-specific equipment. No need for a pit wall now! The vehicle will time and analyse your driving dynamics on its own. While it is AMG-level sporty, it is equally comfort-oriented. After all, it is the electric S class, isn’t it? The rear seat can cocoon you in luxury while your chauffeur takes you around the race track in your AMG. The rear seats get a detachable tablet that controls the MBUX while you relax.
