Mercedes has launched the locally assembled AMG GLC 43 Coupe in India at Rs 76.70 lakhs (ex-showroom, India). It is also the first manufacturer to locally assemble it’s performance-oriented model. With this launch, Mercedes aims to make the AMG brand available to a wider audience.
Being a 43 AMG, the GLC gets a 3.0 litre twin-turbo V6 engine which produces 384 bhp and 520 Nm of torque. It also has a dedicated exhaust button that loudens the exhaust note to give you the AMG soundtrack that everyone loves. Despite carrying the massive weight around this engine allows the car to achieve a 0-100 km/h time of 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h. It gets a 9-speed DCT box tuned for performance. You also get the option of changing the car’s dynamics by toggling through the five different driver modes. This alters the response of the engine, transmission and the suspension. The 4MATIC four-wheel drive features rear-biased torque distribution with a front/rear axle split of 31 to 69 percent.
Besides the performance, the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe also gets a lot of creature comforts such as the latest MBUX infotainment system though the 10.25-inch touchscreen, a Burmester sound system and the Mercedes Me Connect that allows you to control many features of the car such as remote lock/unlock, car locator, speed monitor, emergency e-Call from your smartphone. It also gets safety features such as Active braking assist, Active Bonnet, Pre-safe with seven airbags.
Martin Schwenk, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India commented, “Rolling out the first-ever locally manufactured AMG from India’s largest installed luxury car production facility is an important achievement for us. This reiterates our strong commitment for the Indian market and our continuous effort towards creating value for our customers. We are confident that the local production of the AMG will further increase the popularity of the performance brand in India and cater to the increasing demand of performance motoring enthusiasts. The local production of AMG gives us a competitive edge in the dynamic Indian luxury car market.”
The Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe will go up against the recently launched BMW X3 M and the Porsche Macan S, although it will undercut them in terms of pricing.
