Mercedes-Benz has launched its newest entry-level luxury sedan, the A-Class Limousine, in India earlier today. At present, Mercedes-Benz has introduced the A-Class with an introductory price of Rs 39.90 lakh for the A200 petrol variant, Rs 40.90 lakh for the A200d diesel variant and the A 35 4MATIC AMG is priced at Rs 56.24 lakh (ex-showroom, India, respectively).

The A-Class is offered with two different engine options, a 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 161bhp and 250Nm and a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine which produces 148bhp and 320Nm of torque. While the petrol engine is offered with a 7-speed DCT gearbox, the diesel engine is offered with an 8-speed DCT gearbox and sends power to the front wheels. Mercedes-Benz claims that the petrol engine has a 0 to 100 km/h time of 8.3 seconds while the diesel engine does the stint in 8.2 seconds.

Also on offer is an AMG variant of the A-Class called the A 35. Under the hood of this is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 302bhp and 400Nm of torque, sending power to all four wheels via a 7-speed DCT gearbox. The A 35 AMG claims to hit 100km/h from a standstill in just 4.8 seconds.  It also boasts plenty of exclusive features such as the front grille with twin louvres, the AMG front bumper with flics on the air intakes, a front splitter and silver chrome trim elements exhaust chrome elements and curtain element in the bumper enhance the sharp characteristics.

On the inside, the A-Class is loaded to the gills with tech such as the NTG 6 with MBUX, Mercedes me connect, HD Media Display, Autonomous active brake assist, digital instrument panel, touchscreen infotainment system and multibeam headlamps with LED-taillights. On the A 35 AMG, customers are also offered more standard kit such as the flat-bottom steering wheel in nappa leather, twin digital displays (widescreen). The ergonomically contoured sport seats in DINAMICA microfibre with red stitching enhance the interiors of the A 35 AMG. A Burmester® surround sound system, adaptive AMG suspension and 18-inch AMG alloys are also unique to the A 35.

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class competes with the recently launched BMW 2 Series, which is also offered in a petrol engine and a diesel engine. The petrol variant of the 2 Series is priced at Rs 37.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India), which is around 2 lakhs cheaper than the A-Class, while the diesel variant of the 2 series is priced at Rs 40.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India), which is the same as the A200d.
