Morris Garage India has seen quite a success since they first launched the Hector in India. The Hector also received a mid-life facelift at the beginning of this year, and now MG has set to revamp the Hector line-up by introducing a new mid-trim variant in the Hector portfolio. Prices for the Shine variant range between Rs 14.81 lakh to Rs 16.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Bookings for this variant are already underway at an MG dealership near you.

The mid-trim variant is called the ‘Shine’, and it places itself between the ‘Super’ variant and ‘Smart’ variant. In terms of the features on offer, the Shine will consist of the same features offered in the Super. Still, it will provide a whole host of additional features such as telescopic steering wheel adjustment, chrome exterior door handles, push-button start/stop, electric parking brake, keyless entry with the smart key, and a non-panoramic sunroof. Furthermore, apart from the base-spec variant, MG has introduced a new Havana Grey paint option for all the other variants of the Hector.

Powering the Hector Shine is the same set of powertrains that are available in the other variants. A 1.5-litre turbo-petrol producing 141bhp and 250Nm of torque and a 2.0-litre diesel engine with 168bhp and 350Nm of torque is on offer. While the turbo-petrol can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic, the diesel engine is only offered with the 6-speed manual. On the other hand, the petrol-hybrid mated to a DCT gearbox is not offered in this trim level.

Regarding the competition, looking at its pricing, the MG Hector Shine variant competes with the mid-spec variants of the Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier, Kia Seltos and the newly launched Skoda Kushaq. Still, out of all the cars mentioned, the Creta has the most features on offer.
