Mumbai’s Marine Drive and other famous promenades will now be patrolled by police riding a fleet of 50 segways, 15 of which have been inaugurated by the government authorities recently. The F4B PATROLLER by Freego Bikes Private Limited is an electric two-wheeled, self-balancing personal transporter that has a maximum driving speed of 18 kmph and can run a total of 35 kms on a full charge (claimed figures). It rides on 19-inch Kenda off-road tubeless tyres and can takes six to seven hours to refill its batteries. Comes with a few toys too – two wireless remote controllers, anti-theft system, towing mode and a digital display as well.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh inaugurated these sleek set of wheels for the police, augmenting police’s safety and security preparedness towards the increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases. As per a statement released to the public, police personnel who man these segways will have a public address system attached to their masks to communicate with people and will also monitor public adherence to social distancing norms amid the Coronavirus outbreak. Drones will provide additional complementary cover to the police possé on segways.
