EV Safety Benchmark To Be Set By VinFast in India?

Vietnamese automaker VinFast is making serious waves in the electric vehicle industry, and their recent success at the ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix Awards is a strong indicator of their commitment to safety. The VF 8, one of their flagship models, bagged a whopping five awards, including Best Overall, Best Child Occupant Protection, Best Safety Assist, Best Motorcyclist Safety, and Best SUV. This is a significant achievement, especially considering competition from over 15 major automakers in Southeast Asia.

Safety First: A Key Selling Point for Indian Customers

So, what exactly makes the VF 8 so safe? The car excelled in frontal and side impact tests, earning it the Best Child Occupant Protection award. This is a major selling point for Indian families, where child safety is a top priority. Additionally, the VF 8 boasts a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) like Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Blind Spot Detection (BSD). These features were instrumental in securing the Best Safety Assist and Best Overall awards.

A Well-Deserved Recognition by ASEAN NCAP

The ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix Awards are a prestigious event recognizing automakers who prioritize safety in their vehicles. VF 8's performance in areas like AEB and Blind Spot Detection, along with its Automatic High Beam (AHB) function, impressed the judges and rightfully earned it the Best SUV title.

Yahaya Bin Ahmad, Technical Director of ASEAN NCAP, acknowledged VinFast's dedication to safety, highlighting their "cutting-edge technology and significant investments" which have resulted in a car that meets rigorous international standards.

Setting the Bar High for Electric Vehicles in India

Stuart Kinkade, VinFast Deputy CEO of Vehicle Development Institute, expressed their pride in being recognized by ASEAN NCAP. This achievement serves as a strong validation of their commitment to safety and exceptional quality in electric vehicles.

More Than Just Safety: A Well-Rounded Contender

The five awards at ASEAN NCAP add to VinFast's growing collection of accolades across various international events. This not only reinforces their focus on safety but also highlights their commitment to innovation and sustainability. With these credentials, VinFast VF 8 is shaping up to be a strong contender in the Indian electric vehicle market, offering a compelling combination of safety, technology, and potentially competitive pricing (starting price estimated around ₹ 60 Lakh). As VinFast prepares for its December 2025 launch in India, the Indian audience can expect a feature-rich electric SUV that prioritizes safety for everyone on the road.
