Maruti Suzuki seems all geared up for the launch of the hotly-anticipated new-generation Baleno. After numerous spy shots did rounds on the internet, the carmaker has officially teased the launch for the first time. Apart from the teaser, Maruti Suzuki has also announced the opening of pre-bookings for the next-gen Baleno. If you are eyeing to include one of Maruti Suzuki’s bestsellers in your fleet, you can book one by paying an initial token amount of INR 11,000.
The spy shots revealed that it is going to be a major upgrade for the Baleno, be it in terms of overall aesthetics or features. The Baleno has always been a key player for the carmaker in the premium hatchback segment and the updated model will only augment its position even more.
Referring to the leaked images, the new Baleno is set to receive redesigned body panels. The hood continues with its clamshell design but looks a bit flatter than before. It is also set to receive redesigned L-shaped wraparound headlamps coupled with LED DRLs. We can also expect Maruti Suzuki to introduce a completely overhauled rear design.
Although we are yet to get a peek inside the updated Baleno’s interior but to build up some hype, Maruti Suzuki has revealed a key detail. The updated Baleno will come equipped with a heads up display unit (HUD) with a foldable screen. We cannot expect it to offer as many customizations as luxury cars but it is still a first-in-segment and welcome addition. The 2022 Baleno will also see the arrival of a completely redesigned dashboard with a free-standing infotainment screen taking centre stage.
The new Baleno will most likely be powered by the same engines: a 1.2-litre VVT petrol unit and a 1.2-litre Dualjet motor. The former puts down 82 bhp and 113 Nm of max torque while the Dualjet engine churns out 89 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque. As we have already seen in the new Swift, Maruti could also equip the Baleno with an AMT unit instead of retaining the current model’s CVT unit.
