As Skoda’s renewed commitment to India takes a strong stride forward, their most important product has been launched in India today. Bookings for the all-new Skoda Kushaq have begun as the prices were launched today. Since its world premiere in India earlier this year, Skoda’s compact SUV has made a strong presence and stands out as an entirely new Skoda that’s made in India, made for India. Yet, it’s every inch a global model that wears the hallowed winged arrow badge with pride. The Kushaq will be offered at an ex-showroom price starting at Rs10.49 lacs nationwide, taking forward the ‘One Nation. One Price’ philosophy.

Under the India 2.0 Project, this is the first time that the MQB-A0-IN platform has been used. First showcased as the VISION IN concept, the Kushaq carries forward the clean and minimal design of the brand and looks very much in line with their newer SUVs. Strong creases are prominent and a healthy amount of styling bits like the LED tail lamps, faux diffuser element and roof-spoilers have been used.

Just like the exteriors, the interiors carry forward the new-age Skoda design theme and takes inspiration from the cabin of the Octavia. There are layers to the dash with a 10-inch touchscreen system, Skoda Sound speakers with a sub-woofer and a two-spoke steering for that added bit of flair.

The Kushaq has been launched in three trim levels – Active, Ambition and Style. A range-topping Monte Carlo trim is expected to join the line up soon. Key features for the Kushaq Monte Carlo will include a digital instrument panel, sporty seats, contrast stitching and an overall sporty look and feel to the cabin. The Monte Carlo edition could also be limited to the 1.5 engine option.

Coming to the kit on offer, the top-spec Style trim gets a large 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected-car tech, leatherette seats, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, touch sensitive buttons for the climate control, in-car Wi-Fi, wireless charger, and a sunroof, to name a few. Safety kit includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, TCS, rear-parking camera, auto headlamps and wipers, a multi-collision braking system, tyre pressure monitor, and hill start assist. All variants will also come fitted with ESC as standard.

Along with expanding its sales and service network, the Kushaq will come with 4 Years / 1,00,000 km warranty, which can be extended up to 6 years / 1,50,000 km. Additionally, Skoda will also offer 2 years parts warranty, 2 years battery warranty, 3 years paint warranty, 6 years corrosion warranty and extended roadside assistance programs up to 9 years.

The Kushaq goes up against the likes of other compact SUV’s like the Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector, XUV 500 and the Tata Harrier. The entry level Active variant only comes with a manual transmission, while the 1.5-litre petrol engine is exclusive to the Style trims. Would you pick the Czech over the others?
