It’s safe to say that Tata is currently spearheading the EV game. Proof of this is the fact that seven out of ten EVs bought today are Nexon EVs. So it only makes sense then to capitalise on this strong demand and Tata has done just that. Enter the Tigor EV that has been launched starting Rs 11.99 lakh with three trim levels – XE, XM and XZ+ along with a dual-tone option for the top-spec trim. The pricing makes the Tigor the most affordable four-wheeler EV out there and if the spec sheet is anything to go by, it looks rather promising.
Powering the Tigor EV will be the same Ziptron technology seen on the bigger Nexon EV. The battery capacity is 26kWh which is good for 55kW and 170Nm. The range is rated at 306km as per ARAI testing standards, but you can easily expect around 250km on a full charge. Add to that the fast-growing charging infrastructure of Tata Motors, and range anxiety will soon be a thing of the past. Fast charging can charge up the Tigor EV from 0-80% in just one hour.
The battery is also IP 67 rated so our untimely monsoons shouldn’t be a problem either. There is also an 8 year/1,60,000km battery and motor warranty which is quite reassuring.
What is even better news, is that the Tigor EV has scored a strong four-star rating at the GNCAP safety tests.
Now all said and done, features and equipment on the Tigor EV are plenty too. You get auto folding ORVMs, a 7.0-inch touchscreen with 4 speakers and 4 tweeters, push button start etc.
According to Mr. Shailesh Chandra, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors – “EVs are fast gaining popularity on the back of rising comfort of customers, as the barriers to adoption are being overcome and due to growing preference for environmentally friendly solutions. This has been spearheaded by our very own Nexon EV, which today is the most popular EV in the Indian market. The increasing support from the central and the state. Government, providing subsidies and a conducive environment for EVs to grow, inspires us to expand our EV offerings to our customers. We are ecstatic to launch the Tigor EV today, powered by the capable Ziptron Technology. The Tigor EV is a perfect option for all aspiring sedan buyers who are looking to own a vehicle that is technologically advanced, comfortable and high on safety standards, while also being an environmental-friendly commute, making it an irresistible choice for the buyers to #EvolveToElectric.”
The big draw for buyers though is the government subsidy that is on offer. If you buy the Tigor EV before this year end, you can get an additional incentive up to Rs 1 lakh which combined with the Rs 1.5 lakh subsidy makes it a huge Rs 2.5 lakh drop in price. If that isn’t bargain of the year, we don’t know what is.
