Fresh off of the reveal of the spectacular Mercedes-Benz EQS last month, the German marque is maintaining its momentum with the recently launched Mercedes-EQ sub-brand. A couple of weeks ago, it teased a new electric family van called the EQT. The stunning vehicle has now been revealed as a concept, but make no mistake, this car will see production.
Though it’s fully electric – EQ being Merc’s electric sub-brand – there’ll likely be petrol and diesel versions available too. Talking about the styling, there’s a big, flat, star-patterned face with sharp, narrow LED headlights, and good proportions in its overall silhouette. A panoramic roof features, while inside it’s really very straightforward; old-fashioned, perhaps, considering Merc’s recent adventures in interior structure and design.
Keeping the dashboard design relatively simple, there are two circular dials; one for the speedo, the other for charge. There are physical climate control click wheels, actual buttons (even on the concept) and a small, high-res display perched atop the central dashboard.
As expected, the production-spec EQT will feature the MBUX infotainment system, with the electric version including displays for charging current, energy flow, and consumption. The EQT will also be spacious, measuring 194.7 inches in length with a width of 73.3 inches and a height measurement of 71.9 inches. Sliding doors will feature on both sides of the car, while three rows of seating promise space for seven adults.
Specific details on the mechanicals and powertrains are yet to be revealed, but shouldn’t be that far off. Mercedes-Benz is planning on introducing the T-Class to the markets in 2022. India launch isn’t on the cards yet, but given the offensive product portfolio that the brand has built over the years to retain the top luxury manufacturer in the country, we just might expect it on our roads. The real question is, would you still want an SUV over this sleek urban commuter?
