There’s a whole new player about to enter the densely populated electric scooter market in India. If you have been following the news, you’ll know we’re talking about the Ola electric scooter. Now, there’s yet another update on this brand new venture from Ola – it’s coming soon. Reliable sources suggest in the month of July itself. So, what is this electric scooter? Well, it’s based on the Etergo Appscooter, which happens to be built by a company acquired by Ola not too long ago. However, there are expected to be differences between the two scooters, given that Ola’s scooter will have to deal with our (not so) world-famous roads. Moreover, the images released by Ola Electric show their brand new electric scooter out and about in Bengaluru.
If looks are anything to go by, Ola could be in for quite a number of takers. The Ola scooter has a pleasant rounder look from the side, with that twin-pod headlamp arrangement completing that look upfront. FYI, if you’re trying to figure out who took it out for a spin, it’s none other than Ola Chairman and Group CEO Bhavish Aggarwal. At this point, not a lot is known about this mysteriously handsome Ola electric scooter. However, the folks at the homegrown company tell us that it will be packed with several industry-leading innovations which will include the motor, battery, vehicle computer as well as several other advanced features.
In fact, Ola’s vehicle engineering team has been testing their new scooter extensively for the last few months. Since this is an Indian company we’re talking about, this new product will be made at the Ola Futurefactory in Tamil Nadu. By the time it’s fully built next year, it’ll have a yearly capacity of 10 million units – making it the world’s largest two-wheeler factory. Could this be the end of the 125cc-powered ICE scooters? Well, we hope there can be some co-existence, at least for a while. Obviously, so we can see who comes out on top.
