Porsche is continuing the string of updates for the Macan in 2022. As speculated the Macan Turbo is out, making the GTS the new top model. The lineup drops the 3.0-liter engine for 2022 and gets an updated center console and new interior options. It also gets restyled, slightly, to hold down the stable while the next generation, featuring an EV, gets ramped up for 2023.
We’ll start with those engines. Base Porsche Macan models will start with the company’s 2.0-liter turbo-four making 261bhp and 400Nm of torque. Those numbers are 13bhp and 30Nm more than the outgoing model. Porsche says that’s good for a 0-100kmph sprint in 5.8 seconds when equipped with the Sport Chrono Package – 0.3 seconds faster than the old one – and a top speed of 232kmph.
The Macan S and Macan GTS will now both get the company’s new 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6. In the S it will make 375bhp and 513Nm of torque. Combined with the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that is fitted on all models, 0-100kmph will happen in 4.4 seconds with the Sport Chrono Pack. That’s a half-second quicker than the outgoing model, and it will go on to hit 258kmph. Porsche Active Suspension Management (the company’s adaptive damping) is now standard.
The top of the range will now be occupied by the Macan GTS, making 434bhp and 550Nm. The GTS can do the 100kmph sprint in 4.1 seconds. It also comes with Porsche’s new Surface Coated Brakes, which feature a tungsten carbide layer that Porsche says wears less than iron brakes, and costs less than those insane carbon ceramics. Like the outgoing Turbo, the GTS has a lower ride height than the rest of the range, while the suspension has been stiffened with a change in damper calibration.
The Macan GTS can ordered with the new GTS Sport Package including the Sport Chrono Package, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, 18-way adaptive sport seats, Sport Design mirrors with caps painted in high-gloss black, front and rear fascia as well as side skirts in satin black and 21-inch GT Design wheels shod with special high-performance tires.
Moving from the heart to the sinew (interior), the new Macan comes with the analog clock as standard, a redesigned center console with haptic touch points and larger storage compartments. It also comes with a new, shorter gear lever and optional 911 steering wheels. A 10.9-inch touchscreen continues with Apple CarPlay. The Macan GTS equipped with Sport Package is characterized by carbon fiber elements, deviated stitching and greater number of Race-Tex interior features.
And finally we come to the sheetmetal. The changes are light with new integrated air intakes in body color. The rear gets a diffuser that’s stretched compared to the previous version and side blades now feature a textured element. Seven new wheel designs are available from 19 to 21 inches. The Macan GTS gets special side skirts, clear LED taillights, a sports exhaust and special wheels.
