The line between the compact SUV and mid-size SUV space is getting blurred. The whole band between compact size to mid-size as a pie is getting very exciting and confusing. On one end we already have Venue, Sonet, Magnite, XUV300, Urban Cruiser, Brezza, Nexon, and Ford Ecosport. On the other side we have the Creta, Seltos, Harrier, Safari, Jeep, Mg Hector, VW Tiguan Allspace, and coming up in between these are Renault Kiger, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun, and Citroen C5 Aircross. Now I can imagine if you are in the market to buy an SUV in the next three months, you will be spoilt for choice. Too much option is good but can render the decision-making process very complicated. You might just land up buying a sedan or stick to Ola and Uber just to keep life less complicated. Indian automotive space is getting very exciting, and with Tesla around the corner, we will see a variety of cars on the roads. The vital thing to note is whether the pie will be redistributed or the pie’s size will increase. If it’s the latter, we will soon be needing more roads before we start to enjoy our drives.

I recently went on a road trip with some of my team members from Bangalore to Hampi – a 6-hour drive on NH48, where the roads were simply mesmerizing. Not a single bump on the road and the dividers in between were decorated with flowers. You don’t get such sights often in India, and it’s also great to go on long safaris when roads are roads, not just patches of concrete and cement poured around holes of various shapes and sizes. There is another safari that has been in the news, right from getting an iconic badge of a SAFARI from gravitas itself, was a bold move. Jeep has also come full steam with a facelift Compass, which will lift the Compass’s spirits. It now comes as a formidable package replete with all the new tech and interiors you would expect in a futuristic car.

The next Issue will have Topgear Awards 2.0 first awards and our 1st Anniversary issue, look out for that while we lookout for some more amazing vehicles and roads to bring you the best automotive content.
