The upcoming 2020 Hyundai i20 has been spotted testing in India. The premium hatchback is also reported to have arrived at the dealerships. This not only reveals the interior design and features but also makes us expect the new i20 to be launched in this festive season. The car’s variant-wise features, engine, transmission options, and other specifications for the India-spec model have been trending on the internet for quite a few days. Here’s everything you need to know before the new i20 is launched in India:
Exterior: Too many sharp lines
Looks like the team at Hyundai Motors, is quite inspired by shapes. The new i20 comes with a new hexagonal grille, along with an angular theme throughout the body. It gets those sharp angular LED headlamps, along with a lot of crease lines throughout the body, which gives sporty and aerodynamic looks to the i20. At the rear-end, we get a pair of interconnected LED taillamps along with a prominent black diffuser.
Interior: Features poured up to the brim
After watching tons of spy shots of the interior, one can easily confirm that the Indian-spec version of the upcoming Hyundai i20 will be similar to the international model, revealed earlier this year. Inside the cabin, the new Hyundai i20 carries a dual-tone theme, which combines the black with coffee brown accents, along with leatherette upholstery, and contrast stitching.
The Hyundai i20, being a premium hatchback, was always feature-packed. The new-gen of the i20 is expected to feature a fully-digital instrument cluster, which seems to be borrowed from the Verna face-lift version. The hatchback is also expected to get a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the top-spec variants. A wireless smartphone charging tray is also visible in the interior of the i20. The steering wheel of the i20 seems to be borrowed from the Hyundai Creta but is not available with the flat bottom, which can be seen on the Creta. However, it gets cruise control features as a cherry on the cake. Other features include a front center armrest, a Bose sound system for the audiophiles, a center armrest for the rear-seat passengers, and an air purifier placed between the front seats, which will be very useful amidst the pandemic.
It’s okay to chill while parked, but what about power while driving?
The 2020 Hyundai i20 will be available in three different powertrains. This includes a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, that produces 82bhp of power and will be paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. The other option will be a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 100bhp of power and lastly, we could also see a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 120bhp of power. This option is expected to be offered with either a six-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. We also expect Hyundai to offer the new iMT technology with this 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine.
Lastly, what you should not ignore:
The upcoming Hyundai i20 has already been launched in European markets. With all these new features, we expect it to arrive in India, with a price tag, upwards of Rs 5.5 lakh. However, before the launch of the new-gen of this hatchback, Hyundai dealers are offering benefits and discounts of up to Rs 75,000 on the current-gen Elite i20. This includes a cashback of Rs 50,000 and an exchange bonus. This makes the current-gen Hyundai i20, a super-attractive deal, but only till the stocks last at dealerships.
