Now, this is something most of us were pretty eagerly waiting for, the launch of the Toyota Hilux. The Japanese automaker has finally announced the launch of the Hilux pickup truck with prices starting at Rs 33.99 lakh onwards (ex-showroom, India). The Hilux is available in India in three different grades, 4×4 Standard, 4×4 MT High and 4×4 AT High. Powering the Hilux is a 2.8-litre diesel engine that puts down 204PS and 500Nm (420Nm with the manual gearbox). Furthermore, it is offered with both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Additionally, just like its international guise, the Hilux comes with all the off-road gadgetry such as an electronic differential lock, automatic hill assist control, downhill assist control, automatic limited-slip differential, active traction control and a tyre angle monitor.

Commenting on the announcement of the price, Mr Tadashi Asazuma, Executive Vice President of Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, “Today, we are happy to announce the price of the Hilux. Ever since its launch, it has managed to win the admiration and hearts of the customers with good responses. The market that the Toyota Hilux enters in India is incredibly niche, and its only competitor is the Isuzu D-Max. With the D-Max being priced at Rs 19.02lakh onwards (ex-showroom), the D-Max is a whole lot cheaper than the Hilux, but on paper, the Hilux does have a lot more to offer. But that is something we can only determine when we pitch both these rugged pickups against each other soon.
