Toyota is all set to kick up a storm with its upcoming mid-size SUV which could be called Urban Cruiser HyRyder. ‘Kick up a storm’ in a literal way because as revealed by its latest teasers, the HyRyder will become the first SUV in its segment to sport an AWD layout. So the first ‘real’ SUV as keyboard warriors would like to call it? Seems so. But this is not all the information that has been revealed officially by the carmaker, as we have also received a sneak peek at its interior.
The teasers have partially uncovered the dashboard’s overall layout which downright mimics the layout that we have already witnessed on newer Marutis like the new Baleno and the upcoming Brezza as well. It is common knowledge that Toyota and Maruti Suzuki share more than just platforms and it will stand true in the case of HyRyder as well. The 9-inch infotainment system teased in the videos also looks similar to the one seen on the Glanza and the Baleno.
The teaser also reveals that the HyRyder will join the bandwagon of cars with connected car tech. Toyota could up the premium quotient a little by sprinkling the cabin with subtle dosages of chrome and soft-touch finish on the dashboard. Other features that we can expect from the upcoming HyRyder are heads up display, cruise control, leather seats and a sunroof.
AWD and Strong Hybrid for HyRyder
The Urban Cruiser HyRyder will be the first SUV in its segment to boast of an AWD system, which will certainly go a long way in ensuring that it tackles difficult terrains with ease. Toyota is yet to shed light on the inclusion of drive and terrain modes.
Powering this SUV will be the same 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine that we have seen on Maruti Suzuki cars. It will come mated to a Maruti-sourced mild-hybrid system while the top-spec variants are expected to get Toyota-sourced strong hybrid which will bump up the overall performance. Another crucial takeaway from the teaser video are the rear disc brakes so it would be safe to say that Toyota is going ‘no holds barred’ way with the new HyRyder!
