The Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record has just been beaten, again! But this time, it isn’t some swanky, low slung race car for the road that has beaten the lap record. Instead, it was beaten by the all-new performance version of the Cayenne. Okay, now I got to admit that the record beaten wasn’t of the fastest lap record of the green hell but instead was of the quickest lap in the ‘SUV, offroad vehicle, van, pick-up’ category.
The Cayenne Coupe covered a full lap over a distance of 20.832 kilometres on the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife in just 7:38.925 minutes with test driver Lars Kern on the helm of the performance SUV. Okay, now we have to point out that the Cayenne Coupe used to break the record wasn’t bone stock. It featured a racing seat and roll cage and was fitted with 22- inch Pirelli P Zero Corsas specially developed for the new Cayenne model. Porsche claims that it will be provided as standard on the production version. (For an insane amount, I suppose!).
Some people have raised concerns over the Cayenne Coupe’s achievement, considering that the Cayenne Coupe variant isn’t on sale yet. Still, the notary public also debunked these claims by confirming that the SUV had a series production status. However, it was still lightly camouflaged and is soon to have its global premiere in the coming weeks/months.
The lap record was previously held by the Audi RSQ8, which covered it in 7:42.253 minutes. The Cayenne Coupe managed to outdo the RSQ8 by 3.328 seconds which might seem like nothing to us but can seem like an eternity while racing. With each automaker striving to achieve the fastest lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife, it wouldn’t be surprising if we saw the lap record beaten by a quicker SUV in the near future.
