Swedish luxury automaker Volvo Car India announced that it has recorded a 52% growth in its retail sales for the first six months of 2021. The brand had a cumulative sales number of 713 units for this period as supposed to 469 units sold during the same period last year. Volvo states that their mid-sized luxury SUV, the XC60 contributed the most and is their highest selling model in H1 2021.

Over the course of the next six months of 2021, Volvo aims to further increase its numbers by expanding its current portfolio in India. The brand has already announced the launch of its first fully electric SUV, the XC40 Recharge, in India within the coming months. Furthermore, they will also introduce petrol variants of the S90 and XC60 in H2 2021.

Mr Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director, Volvo Car India, said, “A 52% growth in the high-end luxury mobility during a highly depressed consumer sentiment phase and major covid restrictions in the market place shows the confidence that the Indian consumer has in Brand Volvo. Despite uncertain conditions, it has been a good first half for the company giving us a strong base as we move forward in the year and bring new products to our consumers.”

Volvo Cars India’s product portfolio consists of the S60 and S90 sedan, the XC40, the XC60 and the XC90 SUVs, and as mentioned above, their fully electric XC40 recharge will soon join this portfolio. The brand has established its presence in India since 2007 and since then worked intensively to market the Swedish brand in the country. Volvo cars currently have 25 dealerships spread all across the country and plan on increasing this number in due course.
