BMW F 450 RR Unveiled: 48 hp Supersport Bike Joins the 450 Line-up

BMW Motorrad has presented the new BMW F 450 RR, a lightweight supersport motorcycle developed for riders looking for precise handling, sporty performance and a connection to the brand’s RR family. Positioned in the 48 hp class, the new motorcycle joins the BMW F 450 model family as a dedicated supersport offering, with its development focused on weight optimisation, chassis dynamics and performance on winding roads and racetracks.

The F 450 RR draws inspiration from the design language of the BMW S 1000 RR while using the parallel-twin engine first introduced in the F 450 GS. The same engine is also featured in the recently unveiled BMW F 450 R, with the RR receiving a specific tune to suit its supersport character.

Design

The new BMW F 450 RR follows the design language of the S 1000 RR, with its styling built around a sporty, forward-focused silhouette. The motorcycle features a pronounced nose-down and tail-up stance, complemented by the signature RR flyline and winglets that reinforce its racing-inspired appearance.

The front section features a distinctive split-face design, while asymmetrical side fairing panels and gills on the right side give the motorcycle a unique identity within the F 450 family. The LED headlight incorporates BMW’s signature RR daytime running light design, inspired by the current-generation S 1000 RR.

BMW Motorrad has also paid attention to the motorcycle’s ergonomics. The clip-on handlebars are connected directly to the forged-aluminium triple clamp, creating an active riding position suited to sporty riding. The bodywork and 14-litre fuel tank are shaped to provide secure support and effective knee grip.

The F 450 RR gets a two-piece seat with a standard seat height of 790 mm. Riders can also adjust the seating position through optional accessories, including a Sport rider’s seat that raises the seat height by 20 mm and a low seat that lowers it by 15 mm.

Engine and Performance

Powering the BMW F 450 RR is a newly developed, fuel-injected 420cc parallel-twin engine, first used in the BMW F 450 GS and also seen in the recently unveiled BMW F 450 R. The RR uses the same basic engine, but BMW Motorrad has specifically tuned it to meet the requirements of a supersport motorcycle.

The engine produces 48hp at 8750rpm and develops a maximum torque of 43Nm at 6750rpm. BMW states that up to 80 per cent of the available torque is accessible at 3000 rpm, allowing the motorcycle to deliver strong propulsion from lower engine speeds.

A 135-degree crankpin offset gives the engine its distinctive power delivery and sound, while a balance shaft helps improve refinement and reduce vibrations. Magnesium clutch and transmission covers contribute to the motorcycle’s weight optimisation.

The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox, with power transmitted through an X-ring chain on the left side. The motorcycle also features a stainless-steel underfloor exhaust system with two catalytic converters.

BMW claims a fuel consumption figure of 3.8 litres per 100 km. The 14-litre fuel tank is said to provide a range of more than 350 km, while the standard service interval is 10000 km.

Chassis, Suspension and Brakes

The BMW F 450 RR uses the newly developed chassis concept of the F 450 GS as its foundation, but its setup has been adapted specifically for supersport riding. The motorcycle features a tubular steel space frame made from welded steel tubes and forged components, with the parallel-twin engine integrated as a load-bearing element.

BMW has focused on agile handling, precise feedback and stability, with a short wheelbase and supersport-specific geometry intended to make the motorcycle suitable for both winding roads and racetrack use.

Suspension duties are handled by a 43 mm KYB upside-down telescopic fork at the front and an aluminium hollow-cast, double-sided swingarm at the rear. The rear suspension uses a KYB central spring strut with adjustable spring preload and rebound damping. On the Sport suspension setup, the front fork also offers adjustable rebound and compression damping.

The motorcycle rides on cast-aluminium wheels with tubeless tyres measuring 110/70-17 at the front and 150/60-17 at the rear.

Braking is handled by a 310 mm front disc with a Brembo four-piston monobloc fixed caliper. At the rear, the motorcycle gets a 240 mm disc with a ByBre single-piston floating caliper.

The F 450 RR has a ready-to-ride weight of 177 kg, increasing to 178 kg when equipped with the Easy Ride Clutch. This combination of a compact engine, lightweight construction and supersport-specific chassis is central to BMW’s approach to the new motorcycle.

Features and Rider Aids

The BMW F 450 RR comes equipped with a range of electronic rider aids and convenience features. Three riding modes: Rain, Road and Race, allowing riders to adapt the motorcycle’s behaviour to different riding conditions.

The standard electronic package includes BMW Motorrad ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and engine drag torque control (MSR). ABS Pro supports braking while the motorcycle is leaned over, while DBC helps prevent unintended throttle application during braking. A dynamic brake light provides an additional safety feature by alerting following traffic when the motorcycle slows down.

The F 450 RR also gets a 6.5-inch TFT display with the Pure Ride Screen, offering riding information and connectivity functions. Riders can make phone calls, listen to music and use navigation through the display. A USB-C port is provided in the cockpit, while LED lighting is standard across the motorcycle.

Heated grips are also included as standard equipment. For racetrack use, the motorcycle features a reversible shift pattern, allowing riders to switch to a racing-style gearshift arrangement.

BMW offers the F 450 RR in four equipment variants: Base, Sport, M Sport and M Sport with Innovation Package. The Sport variant adds Shift Assistant Pro and the Sport suspension, while the M Sport gets Riding Modes Pro in addition to these features. The M Sport with Innovation Package also includes the Easy Ride Clutch.

Shift Assistant Pro allows clutch-free upshifts and downshifts and is standard on all variants except the Base model, where it can be retrofitted. Riding Modes Pro adds an individually configurable Race Pro mode, three additional Sport screens with information on traction control, braking force and lean angle, and a lap timer.

The Easy Ride Clutch is available as part of the Innovation Package on the M Sport and can be retrofitted to the other variants as an Original BMW Motorrad Accessory. It automatically engages the clutch according to engine speed, helping improve ease of use and reducing the need for manual clutch operation during regular riding.
