Ducati Formula 73: Limited-Edition Café Racer Launched in India

Ducati has unveiled the Formula 73, a limited-edition café racer inspired by the legendary 750 Super Sport Desmo. The motorcycle traces its roots to the 750 Imola Desmo, which helped Paul Smart and Bruno Spaggiari secure victory at the 1972 Imola 200. The 750 Super Sport Desmo subsequently became the first production Ducati to feature desmodromic valve timing. Paying tribute to this racing heritage, the Formula 73 will be produced in a limited run of just 873 individually numbered units worldwide.

Design

The Ducati Formula 73 features a silver and aquamarine colour scheme with a gold band across the fuel tank, inspired by the original Imola racing motorcycle's transparent fuel-level section. Its café racer styling includes a front fairing, semi-handlebars with bar-end mirrors, a single seat and a tapered tail. Other highlights include Rizoma billet aluminium components, a Termignoni exhaust, 17-inch spoked wheels and an exclusive steering plate carrying the motorcycle's serial number. Each unit also comes with a certificate of authenticity and a collection of archival images and design sketches.

Engine and Performance

The Formula 73 is powered by an 803cc, air-cooled L-twin Desmodue engine with desmodromic valve timing and two valves per cylinder. It produces 73hp at 8,250 rpm and 65.2Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. The engine gets electronic fuel injection and ride-by-wire, with power delivered through a six-speed gearbox and chain drive. The motorcycle also features a Termignoni exhaust developed with Ducati Performance.

Features

The Formula 73 comes equipped with Ducati Traction Control, Bosch Cornering ABS, two riding modes and Ducati Quick Shift for clutchless upshifts and downshifts. Other features include a 4.3-inch colour TFT display, full-LED lighting, daytime running lights, self-cancelling turn indicators and a USB port.

Weight and Dimensions

The motorcycle weighs 183 kg without fuel and has a seat height of 808 mm. It features a 14.5-litre fuel tank and a wheelbase of 1,434 mm. The suspension setup comprises a 41 mm upside-down Kayaba front fork and a preload-adjustable Kayaba rear shock absorber. Braking is handled by a 330 mm front disc and a 245 mm rear disc, while Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres are fitted to the 17-inch spoked wheels.

Price in India

The Ducati Formula 73 is priced at ₹20 lakh (ex-showroom, India). With production limited to 873 numbered units worldwide, the motorcycle combines Ducati's racing heritage with exclusive styling and modern technology, making it a distinctive addition to the brand's Heritage range.
