A new Compass to follow? Not just yet. But here’s a sneak peek.
Thanks to the internet’s unstoppable nosiness, we now have an early look at the all-new Jeep Compass well before Jeep was ready to officially pull the covers off. While the world waits for the formal European debut later this year, leaked images from a Brazilian source have provided a good sense of what’s coming — and it’s not just a facelift. It’s a whole new Compass.
This one rides on Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform. Translation: it shares its oily bits with the Citroën C5 Aircross. But unlike those, the Compass brings along a bit of that good old American-Italian off-road swagger.
Design: Boxy is Back
-
The 2025 Compass gets a proper boxy makeover. Gone is the rounded approach of the current model. In comes blocky fenders, squarer LED lighting, and an upright nose.
-
A shorter overhang front and rear makes it look more compact, though expect the size to be about the same.
-
One version wears lime green and sports an “e” badge. That’s likely your first-ever fully electric Jeep Compass.
-
The white variant with a black bonnet, meaty skid plate, and all-terrain tyres could be the Trailhawk trim.
From some angles, it looks a bit like a shrunken Wagoneer. From others, a toughened-up Avenger. Either way, it’s quite handsome.
Interior: Buttons and Big Screens
-
Inside, there’s a new dashboard layout with a floating-style infotainment screen and proper buttons underneath. Sensible.
-
A rotary knob likely handles drive modes or volume. Either way, it’s good to see a knob hasn’t been outlawed.
-
This prototype appears high-spec: double sunroof, head-up display, and leather upholstery with contrast stitching.
-
Aluminium-style trim and multiple cubby holes make it feel more premium than the outgoing Compass, which was already one of the better-finished cabins in the segment.
Powertrains: Pick a Plug
The new Compass is ditching pure internal combustion in most major markets. Here’s what we know so far:
-
e-Hybrid (mild hybrid)
-
Plug-in Hybrid
-
Fully Electric (with AWD and possibly dual motors)
The electric Compass could borrow heavily from the Peugeot e-3008’s setup, meaning power figures around 321 bhp and 344 Nm, with battery sizes of 73 kWh and 97 kWh depending on the variant. Range details remain under wraps, but a real-world figure north of 400 km is expected for the larger battery.
For India, a petrol-powered variant isn’t ruled out just yet. Jeep has a history here and may offer a turbo-petrol or similar unit for markets where charging infrastructure is still catching up.
Off-Road? Of Course
Jeep hasn’t forgotten its roots. The Trailhawk trim should return with the usual set of upgrades:
-
Raised ride height
-
AWD with terrain modes
-
Off-road tyres
-
Possibly Jeep’s Selec-Terrain system with hill descent control
Despite sharing its skeleton with some very urbane French crossovers, the Compass will aim to hold onto its rough-road credibility — especially in markets like India, where SUVs are expected to do everything from school runs to mountain passes.
Launch Timeline
-
Europe: Late 2025
-
India: Sometime in 2026, potentially after the global EV launch
-
Production: Italy, with CKD or SKD kits likely for India
Jeep India will almost certainly localise some version of the Compass, especially if the electric and hybrid variants gain traction globally. Pricing is speculative at this point, but a top-spec EV Compass with AWD could easily crest ₹40 lakh, while plug-in hybrids and mild-hybrids might land closer to the current price band of ₹22 to ₹35 lakh.
Final Word
Jeep’s next Compass looks sharper, packs more tech, and embraces electrification without losing its rugged appeal. For India, its success will depend on how well Jeep manages localisation, pricing, and — critically — after-sales support.
Until then, the leaked photos will have to do.
