Half a century ago, BMW introduced the 3 Series, a car that would go on to set the benchmark for driving pleasure. To mark this golden milestone, BMW India has launched two special editions: the BMW 330Li M Sport and the BMW M340i, each limited to just 50 units and available exclusively online. Collectors, take note.
BMW 330Li M Sport ‘50 Jahre’ Edition
Locally assembled in Chennai, the long-wheelbase 330Li wears its celebratory trim with subtle aggression. The M High Gloss Shadowline darkens the kidney grille, diffuser, and window surrounds, while carbon fibre details freshen up the interior. There is even a laser-engraved ‘1/50’ badge on the B-pillar, just in case you forget how rare it is.
At 4,819 mm in length with a 2,961 mm wheelbase, this is the most spacious 3 Series variant. Passengers enjoy a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable comfort seats, and the widescreen curved display featuring BMW’s Operating System 8.5. Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine making 258 bhp and 400 Nm, which is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds. Not bad for the “sensible” one.
BMW M340i ‘50 Jahre’ Edition
If the 330Li is the diplomat, the M340i is the showman. This is the quickest made-in-India BMW, sprinting from 0–100 kmph in 4.4 seconds. Under the bonnet is a straight-six 3.0-litre petrol engine producing 374 bhp and 500 Nm, paired with xDrive all-wheel drive and an M Sport rear differential. Translation: lots of grip, lots of noise and plenty of speed.
The special edition treatment includes ‘50 Jahre’ emblems, black M badged fenders, and a laser-engraved plaque confirming exclusivity. The 19-inch jet black alloys with red callipers complete the stance. Inside, you get sport seats finished in Vernasca leather, carbon fibre trim, and a steering wheel with a red 12 o’clock marker. Think business class with a racing licence.
Anniversary Touches
Both editions come in exclusive paint options. The 330Li is available in Mineral White, Skyscraper Grey, and M Carbon Black, while the M340i offers more vibrant shades, including Fire Red Metallic and Arctic Race Blue. Buyers of the M340i also receive a 1:18 scale model of the classic BMW 3.0 CSL — a small but thoughtful nod to the brand’s motorsport roots.
Pricing and Availability
The BMW 330Li M Sport ‘50 Jahre’ Edition is priced at ₹64,00,000 (ex-showroom), while the M340i ‘50 Jahre’ Edition comes in at ₹76,90,000. Both are sold exclusively through the BMW Online Shop and, given the production cap, will likely disappear quickly.
The Legacy
Since its debut in 1975 as the successor to the BMW 02 Series, the 3 Series has represented the sweet spot of performance, technology and everyday usability. Now in its seventh generation, it remains BMW’s best-selling model worldwide. This 50th anniversary is not just about nostalgia. It serves as a reminder that, for enthusiasts, the 3 Series remains the yardstick by which other cars are judged.
