Bugatti Mistral Caroline: a special one-off of the already exclusive Mistral!

The Bugatti Mistral marks the final appearance of Bugatti’s quad-turbocharged W16 engine in a road car. In “Caroline” form, that ending becomes something far more intimate— less a send-off, more a personal story told through design. Created through Bugatti’s Sur Mesure programme, this one-off doesn’t alter the fundamentals. The 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged W16 remains unchanged, producing around 1556bhp. Performance, then, is exactly as extreme as you’d expect. But here, the numbers almost take a back seat to the narrative. Because this car begins with a person.

The “Caroline” specification was commissioned as a tribute to the owner’s daughter, and that emotional starting point shapes everything you see. From Bugatti’s base in Molsheim to its Berlin design studio, the colour and materials team translated that idea into a theme inspired by flowers and haute couture—specifically referencing lavender fields and Parisian gardens.

The result is immediately visible in the paint. The upper body is finished in a bespoke “Lavender” shade, developed exclusively for this car after extensive testing. It isn’t static either — the colour shifts with light, moving between bluish violet and warmer tones, giving the surface a sense of depth and motion.  Below that sits exposed “Violet Carbon” — a tinted carbonfibre finish that adds contrast and structure to the overall design. Then there’s the rear, where the car becomes something closer to art. The active rear wing doubles up as a canvas, featuring a hand-painted floral composition with lilac and iris gradients. The detailing is achieved through multiple stages of masking and layering, creating a three-dimensional effect that fully reveals itself when the wing is deployed. At its centre sits the name “Caroline,” tying the entire concept together.

Inside, the same idea continues — but in a more tactile way. The cabin combines “Blanc” and “Minuit” leather with purple accents and carbonfibre, maintaining a clear visual link to the exterior. But it’s the detailing that stands out. Floral embroidery runs across the interior, created using layered stitching techniques that add both texture and movement. The headrests feature hand-stitched mirrored patterns, while the door panels carry petal-like designs that appear to flow across the surface. Every element feels intentional, designed to echo the same sense of lightness and motion established outside. At the centre of it all sits one of Bugatti’s most iconic details—the gear selector housing Rembrandt Bugatti’s “Dancing Elephant,” enclosed within tinted glass that matches the car’s overall colour palette.

And that’s really what defines this car. Not the engine. Not the performance. But the coherence. With only 99 Mistrals ever being built, the base car is already rare. But this one goes a step further, turning that rarity into something deeply personal.
