Ferrari 849 Testarossa: Hybrid Power, Retro Name

The Testarossa name is back in Ferrari’s line-up, but don’t expect pop-up headlights or Miami Vice vibes. The new Ferrari 849 Testarossa is a plug-in hybrid supercar that replaces the SF90 Stradale, delivering a staggering 1,036 bhp and some clever aero trickery that harks back to the 1970s.

Highlights

  • Successor to the Ferrari SF90 Stradale

  • Powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with three electric motors

  • Combined output: 1,036 bhp and 842 Nm

  • 0–100 kmph in 2.3 seconds, 0–200 kmph in 6.3 seconds

  • EV-only mode: up to 30 km at 130 kmph

  • Aerodynamic rear wing inspired by Ferrari’s 512 S

Key Details

Revealed in Milan, the 849 Testarossa revives one of Ferrari’s most recognisable names but keeps its design firmly modern. There’s a wedge-shaped silhouette, a pointed nose that nods to the original, and a cockpit separated in black to look like a fighter jet canopy.

At the back, Ferrari has fitted a three-part ducktail spoiler inspired by the 512 S. Depending on driving conditions, the central piece adjusts to add downforce or improve efficiency.

Underneath, the Testarossa packs Ferrari’s most advanced hybrid system yet. The 4.0-litre V8 produces 819 bhp on its own, while the trio of electric motors push the combined tally to 1,036 bhp and 842 Nm. That means 0–100 kmph in just 2.3 seconds. Top speed hasn’t been confirmed, but expect it to clear the 330 kmph mark.

For those who enjoy stealth mode, the Testarossa will drive for about 30 km on electric power alone at speeds of up to 130 kmph.

Inside, Ferrari has gone minimalistic. The infotainment system is integrated into the driver’s digital instrument cluster, with a separate screen for the passenger. A traditional-looking gear selector design replaces Ferrari’s more recent “spine” setup, recalling the gated shifters of old.

Summary

The Ferrari 849 Testarossa may not revive its ’80s sibling’s flamboyant details, but it delivers on speed, aero, and hybrid power. Think of it as a thoroughly modern supercar with just enough retro nods to make long-time Ferrari fans smile.
