A Wooden Wonder Takes the Crown
The 1924 Hispano-Suiza H6C Nieuport-Astra “Tulipwood” Torpedo stole the spotlight at the 2025 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, claiming the coveted Best of Show title.
Rare Beauty, Rich History
Commissioned by gentleman racer André Dubonnet, this wooden-bodied masterpiece is built from ⅛-inch mahogany strips held by 8,500 rivets. It competed at the 1924 Targa Florio and Coppa Florio before becoming a road car.
Andersons’ Second Triumph
Presented by Penny & Lee Anderson Sr., the couple also won Pebble in 2022 with a Duesenberg J Figoni Sports Torpedo. This marks Hispano-Suiza’s third Best of Show win, and its first since 1989.
Restored to Perfection
The Tulipwood Torpedo was sold in Monterey in 2022 for $9.2 million and underwent a two-year restoration by RM Auto Restoration before its Concours victory.
A Celebration on the Lawn
As tradition goes, Pebble Beach’s fairway turned into a sea of confetti, champagne, and applause as the mahogany marvel rolled onto the stage to claim its place in history.
