India Car Sales Hits New Highs In October 2025

New car sales in India for October 2025 were boosted by the perfect alignment of the stars - lower GST and the combination of both Dushera and Diwali. 


October 2025 has been a bumper month for new car sales in India. The combination of the government groping GST rates on new car purchases across most bodystyles and car segments along with the two biggest festive periods of the year - Dushera and Diwali, both coinciding in the month of October were catalysts. Predictably, the largest segment sold in India according to bodystyle is the SUV, with both the compact and sub-compact leading numbers.  

Lets start with Maruti Suzuki. India’s largest automaker posted a highest EVER domestic sales figure in October 2025 with a whopping 180675 units sold! This figure is a 10.7 per cent increases year on year and includes the 4357 units of the light commercial vehicle ‘Super Carry’. The automaker also exported 31304 units marking their total sales for the month at 220894 units. 

Mahindra also saw a record month ever in October 2025 clocking an overall sales of 71624 units in the four wheeler segment making it the highest SUV sales in India for a month for any automaker ever! Mahindra also exported 4015 units and additionally sold another 31741 commercial vehicles. 

Tata Motors also registered its best ever sales at 61295 units in October 2025, a 27 per cent jump in sales as compared to the same month last year. Sales were driven by their SUVs at over 47000 units sold and by EVs with 9286 units sold. In fact, EV sales for Tata Motors in October 2025 by itself were also a record high for the automaker.

Hyundai registered a drop in sales in October 2025 in domestic sales (3.1 per cent) with a figure of 53792 units. Overall sales (which includes the 16102 units exported) were also down by 0.2 percent at a total of 69894 units.

Toyota registered a big jump of 43 per cent in terms of domestic sales overall with a total sales figure of 40257 units for October 2025 as compared to 28138 units in the same time last year. Exports stood at 2635 units with an overall figure for October 2025 totalling up to 42892 units, a jump of 29% as compared to the same period last year. 

Kia India registered a month on month growth of 30 per cent over October 2024 with total sales coming in at 29556 units. This has also been Kia India’s best ever sales performance since the automaker launched in India. 

Driven by the relative success of the Kylaq, Skoda India registered it’s best sales in Indian history with 8252 unbits sold in October 2025. Skoda registered a growth of 102.3 per cent as compared to October 2024 (4079 units). The automaker has also registered its best ever half yearly result since inception. 

While most automakers showed major growth in terms of domestic sales, Nissan registered a drop of 23 per cent month-on-month as compared to 2024 with only 2402 units sold domestically. Overall though, exports came to the rescue and Nissan India registered a total sales of 9675 units, an overall growth of 73.7 per cent. Nissan currently only sells the Magnite in India. 

MG sold 6397 units in October 2025, owing to an ongoing great run with the Windsor EV that continues to sell well due to its excellent value proposition. The automaker registered a year on year growth of nearly 20 per cent.
